Norwegian Jade

Norwegian Jade is a Jewel-class cruise ship operated by Norwegian Cruise Line. The vessel was constructed by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, and entered service in 2006 under the name Pride of Hawaii for NCL America, Norwegian Cruise Line's U.S.-flagged operation serving the Hawaiian market. It was designed as the second ship in the company's four-vessel Jewel class, following Norwegian Jewel and preceding Norwegian Pearl and Norwegian Gem. The class shares a broad exterior and design language while giving each ship its own onboard configuration and amenities. The ship was christened at San Pedro Pier in Los Angeles on 22 May 2006 by U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye. At slightly more than 93,500 gross tons, it was a Panamax-form-factor vessel intended to operate within the dimensions suitable for the Panama Canal. Its original construction was associated with NCL America's effort to develop a fleet of U.S.-flagged ships for seven-day Hawaiian itineraries. Pride of Hawaii joined Pride of America and Pride of Aloha, sailing among Maui, Oahu, Kauai, and Hawaii's Big Island. The Hawaiian deployment proved commercially difficult. NCL announced in April 2007 that Pride of Hawaii would leave the Hawaii market in February 2008. In 2014 it was also used as floating accommodation during the Winter Olympics in Sochi. A two-week dry dock in Marseille in November 2011 provided routine maintenance, new carpets and tiling, and hull repainting. A more extensive three-week refurbishment in March 2017 replaced much of the Hawaiian visual identity with a contemporary design. The work added two restaurants and two bars or lounges, refreshed public areas, and renovated staterooms with updated furniture, carpets, flat-screen televisions, larger headboards, and USB charging outlets. Paramore's Parahoy! voyage used Norwegian Jade for a four-day return trip from Miami to Nassau in April 2018, combining concerts with fan activities and performances by supporting artists and comedians. In October 2018, Chris Jericho hosted the inaugural Rock 'N' Wrestling Rager at Sea, combining professional wrestling, rock music, and cruise programming. Mechanical problems in November 2018 caused the cancellation of the remainder of a Southern Caribbean cruise from Miami after the ship reached San Juan.
