Stiftelsen Norsk Mat is an independent foundation that contributes to greater diversity, quality and value creation in Norwegian food production. It administers three labelling schemes that give consumers assurance and information about the origin and quality of food: Nyt Norge, Beskyttede Betegnelser and Spesialitet. It is responsible for Kvalitetssystem i landbruket – KSL, as well as approval of farms for the Inn på tunet scheme. It also has the task of providing consumers with fact-based information about organic production in Norway, and it operates Lokalmat.no, described as the largest Norwegian portal for local food and drink producers.
