Norwegian Dawn

Norwegian Dawn is a cruise ship in Norwegian Cruise Line's fleet. The vessel was completed at Meyer Werft's shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, on 4 December 2002 and began its maiden voyage in Europe on 7 December 2002. Although the ship had originally been intended for Star Cruises under the proposed name SuperStar Scorpio, the project was ultimately delivered to Star Cruises' subsidiary Norwegian Cruise Line and entered service as Norwegian Dawn. The ship belongs to the two-vessel design family commonly associated with the Libra class, while Norwegian Cruise Line has also used the Dawn-class designation for the pair. Norwegian Dawn was constructed by Meyer Werft at Papenburg, Germany, for the Star Cruises group. The ship was initially intended to operate under Star Cruises with the name SuperStar Scorpio. Before delivery, the operating plan changed and the vessel was assigned to Norwegian Cruise Line, a Star Cruises subsidiary at the time, and named Norwegian Dawn. Construction was completed on 4 December 2002. The ship undertook its maiden voyage in Europe on 7 December 2002 and was formally christened in Manhattan on 16 December 2002 in a ceremony led by actress Kim Cattrall. Its sister ship, Norwegian Star, had entered service in 2001.
