Overview

Nooteboom Trailers BV is a family business founded in 1881 that designs and builds trailers with a payload of 20 to 200 tonnes for abnormal transport. Its head office is in Wijchen, the Netherlands, and it has more than 500 employees. The company also operates Nooteboom Used Trailers, a trade operation for used transport solutions.

History

Nooteboom was founded in 1881 when 26-year-old Willem Nooteboom, son of a blacksmith in Schiebroek, opened his own smithy in the village of Kethel near Rotterdam, making fencing, wrought-iron fittings and horseshoes. In 1921 he handed the company to his son Henk Jan Nooteboom, who established Nooteboom Fabriek van Wegtransportmiddelen and moved from supply work to manufacturing end products such as wagons and carriages. In 1929 son Anton joined and began repairing motorcars. The family business evolved over five generations from smithy to carriage builder, then to producer of tippers and cranes, and later to low-loaders with swivel axles and solutions for abnormal transport. Marinka Nooteboom is General Manager of the Koninklijke Nooteboom Group, the first woman to lead the family company.
