History

Nomer odyn was launched as a Ukrainian-language oblast newspaper in Ternopil, first appearing on 5 October 2005 and publishing every Wednesday. It was conceived as a regional title for the urban readership of Ternopil and the surrounding oblast, and it was distributed in the city and in all 16 district centres of the region. On 15 December 2006 the publisher added a second title, "U kozhnu skrynku" ("Into Every Mailbox"), a free Tuesday paper delivered to every mailbox in the city of Ternopil. With a print run of 100,000 copies, it was designed for mass reach and carried city news, useful information, advertising, classifieds and announcements promoting the paid weekly. By 1 March 2019 the paid weekly's print run stood at 24,025 copies. The paper's format settled at 24 A3 pages, with the first two and last two pages in full-colour offset, and a stable set of sections covering local and national news, crime, politics, business, health, travel, consumer testing, reader letters and celebrity interviews. In the 2020s the brand extended online through the news site PERSHYI online at gazeta1.com, which publishes rolling coverage of Ternopil Oblast affairs, including war-related news, resonance crime and politics stories, and economic reporting. The newspaper and its companion titles remain a private regional media operation.
