The Nintendo Switch 2 was announced by Nintendo as the successor to the Nintendo Switch, which had been a major success in the hybrid console market. While specific release details are not provided in the evidence, the Switch 2 builds upon the foundation of the original Switch's system software, codenamed Horizon. The original Switch system software was first released in 2017 and received numerous updates over the years, adding features such as News channels, eShop enhancements, and social features. The Switch 2 introduces new capabilities like GameChat, a voice and video chat feature exclusive to the console, and IPv6 support, which was absent on the original Switch. The development of the Switch 2's system software continues Nintendo's efforts to combat piracy and homebrewing, as evidenced by legal actions against hackers and the implementation of hardware patches. The console is part of Nintendo's broader strategy to maintain its position in the gaming industry, leveraging its popular franchises and online services like Nintendo Switch Online.
