History

Imahan was founded in 1895 in Honjo Azumabashi as a beef hotpot (gyunabe) restaurant. It later evolved from a popular beef hotpot shop into a high-end sukiyaki restaurant. In 1952, a branch called 'Imahan Ningyocho Store' opened as a branch of Imahan. In 1956, it became independent as Ningyocho Imahan. The company expanded with a meat shop in 1967, a food factory in 1967, a steak and Japanese cuisine restaurant in 1998, a delicatessen in 1998, and a first store in the Tokai region in 2007. In 2008, an all-electric bento factory was built, reducing CO2 by 60% compared to the previous factory. In 2014, it took over the business of the long-established Western restaurant 'Hōmitei' in Ningyocho. In 2015, it opened at the Japan Pavilion of the Milan Expo. In 2017, it opened 'Garden Restaurant Ningyocho Imahan' at Ikegami Honmonji in Ota-ku, Tokyo. In 2019, it opened the 'Nagoya Center' food factory in Chiryu, Aichi Prefecture.
