Overview

NH – TRANS, SE is a Czech freight forwarding and transport company headquartered in Ostrava. Founded in 1992 as a limited liability company, it has grown into one of the country's notable providers of comprehensive domestic and international forwarding services. The company's name derives from its original co-owner, the steelmaker NOVÁ HUŤ (the "NH" abbreviation), together with Jan Netal. Over three decades, NH – TRANS has built its market position on rail transport, employee expertise, and its own technical facilities, including a railway wagon fleet. Since 2013 it has held Entity in Charge of Maintenance (ECM) certification for maintenance functions. The company operates through subsidiaries such as Ostravská dopravní společnost, a.s. and Ostravská dopravní společnost – Cargo, a.s., which hold national and international rail operating licences and own locomotives, enabling NH – TRANS to offer private rail carrier services for selected domestic and international projects. It maintains a quality management system according to ISO 9001:2015 and has completed eight successful recertification audits. In 2016 the company handled over 10 million tonnes of goods and reported revenues exceeding 2 billion CZK. Its service portfolio includes domestic and international rail freight, heavy and oversized cargo transport, rental of railway wagons and locomotives, conventional and container sea freight, river and combined transport, transshipment in European ports, road transport, and qualified consulting in transport and forwarding. NH – TRANS is an associate member of FIATA and a member of the Czech Freight Forwarding and Logistics Association and the Czech Transport Association. Since 19 February 2022, the sole owner is the Slovak company Budamar Logistics, part of the Budamar Group.

History

NH – TRANS, SE was founded in 1992 as a limited liability company (společnost s ručením omezeným). Its original owners were NOVÁ HUŤ, a.s. and Jan Netal; the abbreviation "NH" in the company name comes from NOVÁ HUŤ. In 2003, Nová huť sold its nearly half stake in the company to its then-owner LNM Holdings for 50 million CZK, a price that minority shareholders of Nová huť considered suspiciously low. According to former general director Jan Netal, the value of the entire company at that time was about 600 million CZK. In 2003, with revenues of 3.26 billion CZK, NH – TRANS was the fifth most important transport company in the Czech Republic, after České dráhy, České aerolinie, Česká správa letišť, and Čechofracht. On 1 July 2004, the legal form changed to a joint-stock company (akciová společnost), and subsequently on 31 July 2007 to a European company (Societas Europaea). The main business activity is domestic and international freight forwarding, focusing primarily on rail and sea transport and on heavy and oversized shipments. From 2008, NH – TRANS held a quarter share in the Belarusian company ČD Trans (co-owned by ČD Cargo and Česká východní), but in 2010 this share was sold to the Polish company Koleje Czeskie. As of 1 January 2017, activities related to rail transport operations were spun off from Ostravská dopravní společnost into a newly founded company, Ostravská dopravní společnost – Cargo (ODOS Cargo); the original company retained forwarding activities. Simultaneously, ownership shares changed so that both ČD Cargo and NH – TRANS each own a 50% stake in the original company. In the new company ODOS Cargo, NH – TRANS holds an 80% share, with the remainder held by ČD Cargo. Since 19 February 2022, the sole owner of NH – TRANS is the Slovak company Budamar Logistics. The company is an associate member of FIATA and a member of the Czech Freight Forwarding and Logistics Association and the Czech Transport Association.
