History
Neyyattinkara Municipality is a local self-government body in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala, India. The town of Neyyattinkara is situated on the banks of the Neyyar River, from which it derives its name. It is the headquarters of Neyyattinkara Taluk and is described as a major commercial and industrial centre at the southern end of Thiruvananthapuram district. The area is part of the Neyyattinkara Legislative Assembly constituency and the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency. The municipality administers the town through the Neyyattinkara Municipal Council. The region has historical significance: cave paintings at Pandavan Para in Perumkadavila panchayat, northeast of Neyyattinkara, are believed to date to the Neolithic period, indicating early human habitation. Before the time of Marthanda Varma, the area was known as Thenganad. Marthanda Varma later built the Sree Krishna Temple near the Ammachipplava (a hollow jackfruit tree) in 1757, which remains a prominent temple in Kerala.
