Overview

New Lachaussée is a Belgian precision machine builder based in Ans, near Liège, specializing in machinery for the industrial production of metallic and pyrotechnic elements. The company does not manufacture or sell ammunition, primers, detonators, or pyrotechnic compositions itself; instead, it designs and supplies the production lines, individual machines, and tooling that allow its customers to manufacture these products. Its four fields of expertise are ammunition lines, priming and pyrotechnic lines, detonator lines, and engineering. The ammunition lines cover machinery for cups, cases, bullets, projectiles, and cartridges in calibers such as 9mm, 7.62mm, 5.56mm, .22, .50, and medium caliber. Priming and pyrotechnic lines include complete machinery sets for primer manufacture and equipment for pyrotechnic compositions such as primary explosives, incendiaries, and tracer compositions. Detonator lines produce military and civil detonators, including detonator shells, delays, electric fuzes, loading and assembly, and quality inspection. The engineering department measures and analyzes many parameters when designing machines, adapting them to customer needs. Beyond hardware, New Lachaussée offers technology transfer services covering chemical processes, material specification, element drawings, gauges, quality control procedures, facility layout, machine implantation, energies (water, air, electricity), reinforced foundations, and production and safety flows. It also provides worldwide support, including on-site installation, commissioning, fine adjustments until quality production, training of customer technicians, ad hoc interventions for repairs or subsequent adaptations, long-term technical documentation, after-sales service, and maintenance plans. The company honors smaller orders of individual machines or single tools. New Lachaussée is part of the CBC Europa group. Its history dates back to 1830, when Louis Lachaussée founded the company in Liège to build machines for gunpowder production. Over nearly two centuries it has evolved from gunpowder machinery to machine tools and ammunition machines, and later expanded into non-ammunition sectors. Today it positions itself as a know-how partner for fine mechanics and pyrotechnics, serving defense and civil customers worldwide.

History

New Lachaussée traces its origins to 1830, when Louis Lachaussée founded the company in Liège, Belgium, to build machines for the production of gunpowder. In 1852, Louis Lachaussée died while establishing a gunpowder factory in Serbia. After his death, his wife and a son took over the company, which then specialized in machine tools and ammunition machines. In 1913, Louis Lachaussée, grandson of the founder, moved the factory to Ans. During World War I, he fled to Paris and returned in 1919. He left the military sector and began building machines for hunting and sporting ammunition. During World War II, the factory was practically idle but grew rapidly afterwards. In 1970, the company took over the old Imperia factory in Nessonvaux. It also began building machines for sectors other than ammunition. Over time, the company became part of the CBC Europa group. In 2003, New Lachaussée wanted to build an ammunition factory in Nepal for the production of bullets for FN weapons. In 2005, the company received a permit to build an ammunition factory in Tanzania, which was later withdrawn. Today, New Lachaussée operates from Ans, Belgium, and provides machinery and engineering services for the production of metallic and pyrotechnic elements worldwide.
