Overview

The New Development Bank (NDB) is a multilateral development bank established by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) with the purpose of mobilising resources for infrastructure and sustainable development projects in emerging markets and developing countries (EMDCs). It describes itself as "The Premier Bank for Emerging Economies" and states that sustainability is at the core of its mandate, with ESG impacts of financed projects assessed, minimised and mitigated during implementation. Its General Strategy for 2022–2026 sets the course for its evolution into a leading provider of solutions for infrastructure and sustainable development for EMDCs. The Bank's membership is open to members of the United Nations in accordance with its Articles of Agreement, and it is open to borrowing and non-borrowing members.
