Overview
Neutor Galerie is a shopping centre located in the eastern part of the Dinslaken city centre in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, directly at Neutorplatz. It opened on 6 November 2014 at a cost of approximately 120 million euros and was built by a consortium consisting of the Dinslakener Baugesellschaft Walter Hellmich GmbH and the Duisburg-based Multi Development GmbH. The centre was constructed on the site of the former Hertie department store and the former Hans-Böckler-Platz. The centre offers around 16,000 m² of retail sales space according to Wikipedia, while the official website describes roughly 22,000 m² of total space. It hosts a mix of well-known fashion, footwear, accessory, drugstore, cosmetics and electronics brands, including C&A, H&M, Only, Jack & Jones, MANGO, Hunkemöller, Deichmann, Dismer, Bijou Brigitte, Shoe4you, dm, Rituals and expert. In addition to retail, the centre includes a fitness studio and a car park with 520 spaces for visitors and long-term parkers. Cafés and food outlets invite visitors to linger, and the centre is open daily from 10:00 to 20:00. Neutor Galerie positions itself as more than a shopping destination: it hosts events and activities throughout the year, such as midnight flea markets, children's flea markets, craft activities, a summer family festival on Neutorplatz, and seasonal Christmas and arts-and-crafts markets. The centre is barrier-free and offers services including free Wi-Fi, baby changing rooms, a baby lounge, lockers, gift vouchers, a food court, bicycle parking, customer toilets, a customer information desk, an art exhibition space, and a parking garage. The centre is managed by a centre management team, and its official website is neutorgalerie.de. It serves as a central retail and community hub for Dinslaken and the surrounding area.
History
The site at Neutorplatz in Dinslaken has a long history. From 1884, a livestock market (Viehmarkt) was held there and existed for many years. For hygienic reasons, the city had to erect a permanent building, which it fulfilled on Hünxer Straße, where Pintsch Bamag has been located since 1947. The decline in the number of animals traded could not be prevented, and the Dinslaken livestock market lost its significance, not least because the Jewish livestock traders and their families from all over Germany and from Dinslaken were driven out, deported and killed. In the post-war period, the Hertie department store was built on the site. In 2012, construction of the new centre began. The project development was closely coordinated with the planning of public spaces in the immediate vicinity, such as the redesign of Neutorplatz, Saarstraße and Rutenwall. The Neutor Galerie opened on 6 November 2014 at a cost of approximately 120 million euros.
