Overview

Neuron Soundware is a Czech technology company founded in 2016 by Pavel Konečný through the StartupYard accelerator. It develops an artificial-intelligence and machine-learning system that listens to industrial machines in real time, detects developing faults from their acoustic and vibration signatures, and alerts operators before failures cause unplanned downtime. The company describes its approach as non-invasive: sensors are attached to existing equipment without modifying the machine or integrating with its PLC, and edge units first learn what a healthy asset sounds like before flagging deviations. The platform combines in-house hardware and software. Acoustic and vibration sensors feed edge units that run machine-learning models; the algorithms can also analyse other physical parameters such as temperature, pressure, electric current, magnetic field, luminescence, permeability and irradiance. Output is delivered as a ranked list of real problems for maintenance and quality teams, replacing fixed service calendars. Neuron Soundware states that its technology can monitor almost any machine, from power-generation equipment, pumps, compressors, mills and transport systems to CNC machines, HVAC systems, robots, welding equipment and 3D printers, whether a single asset, a fleet or a complete production line. Beyond monitoring products, the company offers customised R&D services for industrial manufacturers, including new technologies, processes and products, and consulting focused on implementing innovative R&D solutions. Its early customers and test partners included Czech automotive firms and the German industrial groups Siemens and Deutsche Bahn, which began testing the product in 2017. Neuron Soundware has been recognised with a series of awards and funding rounds. In 2016 it won first place in the Vodafone Idea of the Year and Česká spořitelna Best Startup of the Year competitions, and the project combining IoT and AI won the Idea of the Year international award. In 2017 it was incubated in the StartupYard accelerator and received a EUR 600,000 investment from J&T Ventures I. Gartner included the company in its 2018 Cool Vendors in Acoustic Technologies for Predictive Maintenance report, and in 2019 it closed a EUR 5.75 million Round A investment. The company presents itself as having moved from an awarded startup to a recognised global expert in AI and ML-based solutions, with seven years of development, six international awards and activity on four continents.

History

Neuron Soundware was founded in 2016 by Pavel Konečný through the StartupYard accelerator. Konečný had previously spent eleven years at the IT consultancy Accenture, where he took part in more than 35 technology and strategy projects for 25 clients across three continents. He has said he had been waiting for computers to become powerful enough to be used effectively for the development of artificial intelligence, and he moved into entrepreneurship in 2016 with a focus on predictive machine maintenance using sound analysis. The founding year was also a year of recognition: the project combining IoT and AI won the Idea of the Year international award, and the company took first place in the Vodafone Idea of the Year and Česká spořitelna Best Startup of the Year competitions. In 2017 the company was incubated in the StartupYard accelerator and received a EUR 600,000 investment from the venture fund J&T Ventures I. That same year, Czech automotive firms and the German companies Siemens and Deutsche Bahn began testing the product. The concept developed into its present form, with the stated goals of preventing unscheduled production shutdowns, boosting productivity, speeding up timely intervention and providing real-time diagnostics, while achieving energy and repair cost savings. The company also pursued the goals of extending machinery lifecycles through real-time failure detection and optimising machinery maintenance plans. In 2018, Gartner included Neuron Soundware in its report Cool Vendors in Acoustic Technologies for Predictive Maintenance, and the company took third place in the European startup competition Power Up. In 2019 it secured a Round A investment of EUR 5.75 million. By the time of its later corporate communications, Neuron Soundware described itself as having seven years of development, six international awards and a presence on four continents, and as having grown from an awarded startup into a recognised global expert in AI and ML-based solutions. Its technology portfolio expanded from predictive maintenance into customised R&D solutions for industrial manufacturers, including new technologies, processes and products, supported by consulting services. The company continues to market its non-invasive acoustic and vibration monitoring platform for a wide range of machines and production environments.
