National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Hajipur

The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Hajipur, was established in 2007 under the aegis of the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India, through the NIPER Act, 1998. It was conceived as a Centre of Excellence in pharmaceutical education and research, founded to strengthen the human resource base and foster innovation in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors, particularly in the eastern region of India. In its formative years it operated under the mentorship of the ICMR–Rajendra Memorial Research Institute of Medical Sciences (RMRIMS), Patna, until 31 October 2018. On 1 November 2018 a regular Director was appointed, and in 2021 the institute was accorded the status of an Institute of National Importance (INI) under the NIPER (Amendment) Act, 2021.

It was conceived as a Centre of Excellence in pharmaceutical education and research, founded to strengthen the human resource base and foster innovation in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors, particularly in the eastern region of India. In its formative years, the institute operated under the mentorship of the ICMR–Rajendra Memorial Research Institute of Medical Sciences (RMRIMS), Patna, which provided academic and administrative support until 31 October 2018. On 1 November 2018 a regular Director was appointed, marking the beginning of a transformative phase. In 2021 the institute was accorded the status of an Institute of National Importance (INI) under the NIPER (Amendment) Act, 2021.
