Overview

The National Association of Pharmacy Students of France (Association nationale des étudiants en pharmacie de France, ANEPF) is a French non-profit association founded on 14 March 1968 in Paris and governed by the French law of 1901 on associations. It brings together the 25 student associations of the 25 pharmacy faculties in France and represents approximately 30,000 pharmacy students nationwide. Its primary purpose is to carry the demands of students at various levels in order to improve initial training while promoting interprofessionalism and quality of care. ANEPF operates through several thematic networks, including Elected Representatives, Public Health, Solidarity, International, Tutoring, Ecological Transition & Environmental Health, Community Pharmacy and Industry. These networks reflect the involvement of the next generation of pharmacists in solidarity commitments, peer support and the influence of the profession. The association intervenes with health institutions, the media and university bodies to protect the social, professional and educational interests of pharmacy students. Its stated goals include defending the collective and individual rights and interests of pharmacy students; building ties of friendship and solidarity among member associations and students; contributing to the quality of initial and continuing pharmacy education; working for accessibility of pharmacy studies regardless of a student's social or financial background; fostering student development through professional project building and improved living conditions; promoting equal rights and combating all forms of discrimination; contributing to the evolution of professional practices; enabling students to develop their capacity to hold associative or student-elected mandates, their scientific and pharmaceutical culture, their role as public health actors and their critical thinking; participating in improving population health; carrying out any necessary operations to fulfil its purpose; and promoting student mobility and international exchanges. ANEPF also produces surveys and reports on student well-being and conditions. In 2020 it published a well-being survey revealing that 56% of pharmacy students reported being in a situation of stress and that 58% had considered dropping out of their pharmacy studies; the survey also described weak faculty support in cases of harassment. Another survey conducted between November and December 2021 addressed sexual and sexist violence in pharmacy studies. Conducted among 2,103 students, it revealed that half of female pharmacy students had experienced at least one situation of sexual harassment and that a quarter had experienced sexual assault, with most incidents perpetrated by other students, particularly at parties, and then by university professors in the teaching context. The association maintains an official website at anepf.org, where it publishes resources such as the cost of the academic year, a search engine for master's, DU and DIU programmes accessible to pharmacy students and pharmacists, and information on pharmacy careers in partnership with the Ordre des Pharmaciens.
