Overview

Nakanishi Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (中西電機工業株式会社) is a Japanese specialist trading company, or shosha, focused on factory automation (FA). Headquartered in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, the company serves manufacturers across Japan's Chubu industrial heartland — the region anchored by the automotive, machine-tool, food-machinery and pharmaceutical-machinery industries. Its business is built on three pillars: the sale of electronic components needed for automation, the design and manufacture of control devices that govern production equipment and machinery, and consulting services that help factories solve automation and production-floor problems. The company began in 1961 in Nagoya's Kita ward as a motor sales, modification and repair business. It opened its first showroom in 1964 and began taking orders for control panels the same year, then incorporated in 1967 with capital of one million yen. Through the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s it expanded its showroom network across Aichi and Mie prefectures — Komaki, Minami, Kariya, Okazaki, Yokkaichi, Toyota and Toyohashi — and built a materials center in the Nagoya wholesale district. Capital was increased to 99.8 million yen in 1991. In the 2000s and 2010s the company obtained ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification, added electrical and telecommunications construction licenses, opened a Kachigawa factory, and entered the medical-device business with AED sales. More recent openings include the Handa showroom (2017), Hamamatsu showroom (2019) and Inabe showroom (2020). Today Nakanishi Electric describes itself as handling more than 1,500 supplier manufacturers and serving roughly 5,000 regular customer companies. Its Nagoya logistics warehouse carries about 20,000 product items for rapid delivery, and the company operates 13 locations in the Chubu area. Product lines span FA equipment, connectors and terminals, electrical construction materials and tools, as well as newer offerings such as safety switches, mobile robots, collaborative robots, explosion-proof photoelectric sensors, inverters and industrial cameras. The company remains privately held and is not listed on a stock exchange.

History

Nakanishi Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. traces its origins to June 1961, when it began selling, modifying and repairing motors in Kōonji-chō, Kita ward, Nagoya. In October 1964 the company opened a showroom in Nakamaru-chō, Kita ward, and simultaneously began accepting orders for control panels — an early step from motor trading into control-system work. In December 1967 the business was reorganized as a joint-stock company (kabushiki kaisha) with capital of one million yen. Through the 1970s and 1980s the company expanded its sales network across Aichi Prefecture. It opened the Komaki showroom in May 1971, the Minami showroom in Nagoya's Midori ward in November 1978, and the Kariya showroom in January 1982. In April 1984 a new head office building was completed in Fujimi-chō, Naka ward, Nagoya, together with the Shimomaezu showroom. In January 1985 the materials center was relocated and expanded within the Nagoya wholesale district in Fujimae, Minato ward, and the Meikō showroom opened at the same time. The Okazaki showroom followed in May 1987 and the Yokkaichi showroom in October 1988. In the 1990s the company strengthened its capital base and reputation. Capital was increased to 99.8 million yen in May 1991. In October 1991 it received the Aichi Prefecture Governor's Award as an excellent rationalized enterprise, and in March 1993 it was recognized by the Director-General of the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency as an excellent company. The Toyota showroom opened in March 1993. A private placement bond was issued in January 1999, and a new Komaki showroom opened in May 1999, merging with the former North showroom. The 2000s brought quality and environmental certification and further network renewal. ISO 9001 certification was obtained in July 2002 and ISO 14001 in January 2005, both through KHK-ISO Center. The Minami showroom was rebuilt in October 2002, the Toyohashi showroom opened in March 2003, the Okazaki showroom was relocated and renewed in December 2006, the Yokkaichi showroom was relocated and renewed in October 2007, and the Kariya showroom was rebuilt in November 2008. In the 2010s the company broadened both its physical footprint and its service scope. It obtained a general construction business license for electrical work and telecommunications work in February 2010. A Nishiō satellite opened in Anjō in August 2011, followed by a Hamamatsu satellite in March 2012. The Toyota showroom was relocated and renewed in March 2013, and a second materials-center warehouse opened in May 2013. A Kachigawa factory opened in Kasugai in October 2014. In November 2014 the company obtained a high-level controlled medical device sales license and began selling AEDs, adding medical devices to its portfolio. In the late 2010s and early 2020s the network continued to evolve. The Nishiō satellite was relocated and renewed as the Handa showroom in June 2017. The Hamamatsu satellite became the Hamamatsu showroom after relocation and renewal in November 2019. The Inabe showroom opened in January 2020. By the mid-2020s the company was presenting itself as a specialist FA trading house with more than 1,500 supplier manufacturers, roughly 5,000 regular customers, about 20,000 stocked items in its Nagoya logistics warehouse, and 13 locations across the Chubu region, while continuing to launch new automation, safety, robotics and IoT products.
