Overview

Naděje is a Czech charitable organization that has operated since 1990. Its stated mission is the practical application of the Gospel in life and its dissemination, and its goal is to build and operate a network of services for people in need on Christian principles. It is registered as a spolek (association) under Act No. 83/1990 Coll. on the association of citizens, registered on 21 August 1990 with the Ministry of the Interior under number VSP/1-2274/90-R. According to its statutes, Naděje is non-political and interdenominational with nationwide scope. The organization provides help in its facilities and beyond, including spiritual, moral, social, health, medical, hygiene, catering, accommodation, material, legal, advisory, awareness-raising, educational, and upbringing services, as well as supplementary services. Its services target especially lonely people, people with disabilities, the socially excluded, and otherwise disadvantaged people. It also carries out missionary activity in all forms. Naděje emerged spontaneously without prior planning. Its first period, from August 1990 to April 1991, was characterized exclusively by volunteer work, initially in Prague providing first aid (accommodation and food), later in refugee camps at Jabloneček near Mimoň and Bělá pod Bezdězem, and then again in Prague preparing its own centers. The founding and development of Naděje is associated with Vlastimila Hradecká, who realized the vision that received the symbolic name Naděje. She died on 11 March 1997. From the initial enthusiasm of a few individuals, the organization grew into one active throughout the Czech Republic. Its programs expanded from initial assistance to refugees to other groups of people in need, from homeless people through old and abandoned people, handicapped children and youth, abandoned children, to national minorities and released prisoners. Today Naděje operates 22 branches across the Czech Republic, including in Brno, Česká Třebová, Jablonec nad Nisou, Kadaň, Klášterec nad Ohří, Liberec, Litoměřice, Litomyšl, Lovosice, Mladá Boleslav, Nedašov, Otrokovice, Písek, Plzeň, Prague, Roudnice nad Labem, Štětí, Uherské Hradiště, Vizovice, Vsetín, Vysoké Mýto, and Zlín. History

Naděje emerged spontaneously without prior planning. At the beginning, it was work without money for operation, serving food at railway stations to Romanian refugees. The first period, from August 1990 to April 1991, was characterized exclusively by volunteer work, initially in Prague providing first aid (accommodation and food), later in refugee camps at Jabloneček near Mimoň and in Bělá pod Bezdězem, and then again in Prague preparing its own centers. The founding and development of Naděje is associated with the personality of Vlastimila Hradecká. Through her immense effort and perseverance, she realized a vision that received the symbolic name Naděje. She understood years in advance the future development of society and the needs of people who find themselves on its margins. Herself severely disabled, she was able to empathize with the suffering and hardship of the poor and listen to them. She left her unfinished work for others on 11 March 1997. From the initial enthusiasm of a few individuals grew an organization that today operates throughout the Czech Republic. From initial assistance to refugees, its assistance programs gradually expanded to other groups of people in need, from homeless people, through old and abandoned people, handicapped children and youth, abandoned children, to national minorities and released prisoners.
