History
MVM CEEnergy Zrt. was created on 30 September 2013, when MVM Magyar Villamos Művek Zrt. acquired E.ON's Hungarian natural gas wholesale company. The new entity was named Magyar Földgázkereskedő Zrt. and became Hungary's largest natural gas wholesaler, responsible for securing the country's gas supply through long-term procurement contracts for universal service providers, gas traders, large consumers and power plants. In order to increase its regional market presence, the company established wholly owned subsidiaries in Austria in 2014, in Slovakia in 2015, and in Croatia and the Czech Republic in 2020. These subsidiaries extended the company's gas trading footprint beyond Hungary into neighbouring and nearby Central European markets. With effect from 1 July 2021, the company changed its name from Magyar Földgázkereskedő Zrt. to MVM CEEnergy Zrt. The new name reflects its role as the central European energy trading arm within the MVM Group.
