History
The idea to create the journal 'Problems of Music Scholarship' emerged in October 2007 at the International Scientific and Practical Conference on Problems of Musical Semantics, held at the Astrakhan Conservatory in November 2006. Twelve Russian higher education institutions confirmed their desire to become co-founders, including the Astrakhan State Conservatory (Academy), Voronezh State Academy of Arts, Novosibirsk State Conservatory (Academy) named after M. I. Glinka, Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatory (Academy) named after M. I. Glinka, Kazan State Conservatory (Academy) named after N. Zhiganov, Magnitogorsk State Conservatory (Academy) named after M. I. Glinka, Rostov State Conservatory (Academy) named after S. V. Rachmaninoff, Saratov State Conservatory named after L. V. Sobinov, North Caucasus State Institute of Arts, Tambov Musical-Pedagogical Institute named after S. V. Rachmaninoff, Ural State Conservatory named after M. P. Mussorgsky, and Ufa State Academy of Arts named after Zagir Ismagilov. In 2008, the Petrozavodsk State Conservatory named after A. K. Glazunov joined the consortium. The initiative for organizing the journal, creating the editorial board and editorial office was taken by the Ufa State Academy of Arts named after Zagir Ismagilov (UGAI), which had an editorial department, its own publishing base, and a department for 'Book Design'. The first editor-in-chief was Lyudmila Nikolaevna Shaimukhametova, Doctor of Arts, professor at UGAI, who created a music-semiotic scientific school, the only Laboratory of Musical Semantics in Russia, and had extensive editorial and publishing experience. The chairman of the Council of Co-founders was Ishmukhamet Gilmutdinovich Galyautdinov, Doctor of Philology, professor, corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Bashkortostan, rector of UGAI from 2001 to 2010. The journal has been published since 2007 in several European languages and is distributed in universities and music schools in many countries. It is indexed in Scopus (coverage from 2016 to August 2021), Web of Science Core Collection (ESCI), Music Index / EBSCO, RILM, DOAJ, and ERIH PLUS. The network edition is registered with Roskomnadzor, certificate EL No. FS 77-78770 dated 30 July 2020.
