Murexin

Murexin GmbH is an Austrian manufacturer of construction chemicals headquartered in Wiener Neustadt. Founded in 1931, the company produces around 3,000 articles across six product categories for professional use in the building trade, serving tilers, floor layers, painters, waterproofers, plasterers and screed layers. Murexin is part of the Schmid Industrieholding GmbH, a traditional Austrian industrial group that also includes companies such as Austrotherm, Baumit, Furtenbach, Wopfinger Transportbeton and Ortner. The company operates its headquarters, production facilities, central warehouse, technical centre and competence centre for research, development and quality assurance at its Wiener Neustadt site, which draws on over 90 years of experience. With approximately 400 employees, Murexin guarantees professional support and high-level service. International production sites are located in Szekszárd (Hungary), Mühlheim (Germany) and Puconci (Slovenia), and Murexin products are available in around 30 export markets through direct sales, distribution partners or established subsidiaries. The product range is divided into six categories: adhesive technology, tile laying technology, coating technology, paint technology, waterproofing technology and mortar technology. Murexin positions itself as a complete provider for construction professionals, emphasizing quality, delivery reliability and flexibility. The company is committed to ecology and sustainability as core themes, operating photovoltaic systems at several locations and pursuing CO₂ reduction, resource conservation and energy efficiency. Murexin has received the "Leitbetrieb Österreich" seal and the "Top Service Österreich 2025" quality award.

Murexin was founded in 1931 in Wiener Neustadt, Austria. Since 1987, it has been part of the Austrian Schmid Industrieholding GmbH, a traditional industrial group. In 1993, Murexin expanded to Hungary; two years later, in 1995, it merged with the Wiener Neustadt-based company Furtenbach. Further international expansion followed: subsidiaries were established in the Czech Republic (1996), Romania (2001), Slovenia (2006), France and Slovakia (2009). In 2000, the paint and varnish manufacturer Durlin was acquired, and its product range was fully integrated into Murexin by 2010. A new laboratory at the Wiener Neustadt site opened in 2005, followed by the establishment of a new competence centre for research and development in 2006. A new plant was built in Hungary and opened in 2008. In 2016, the legal form changed from a stock corporation (Aktiengesellschaft) to a limited liability company (GmbH). In 2018, Murexin acquired the Slovenian company KEMA, which manufactured tile adhesives, joint compounds and building materials for renovation work; the integration of KEMA is to be completed by 2025. The acquisition also added own quartz sand to the product portfolio. In 2020, a technical centre was opened at the headquarters, providing space for offices, training and research and development. At the beginning of 2022, another subsidiary was founded in Germany, the company's largest export market. Murexin Deutschland GmbH, based in Mühlheim am Main, took over a former Baumit plant and serves as a sales and production site for the German market, producing powder products and offering logistics and training for dealers and processors.
