Mult

Mult (Russian: «Мульт») is a Russian children's pay-television channel that broadcasts popular modern animated series, classic Soviet animation, and original productions. It began round-the-clock broadcasting on 1 June 2014 as part of the «Цифровое телевидение» (Digital Television) package, a joint venture between the state broadcaster VGTRK and the telecom operator Rostelecom. The channel is aimed at children roughly aged 1.5 to 10 and is distributed through cable and satellite networks in Russia and across the CIS. The programming mix combines contemporary Russian hits such as «Маша и Медведь» (Masha and the Bear), «Лунтик» (Luntik), «Смешарики» (Kikoriki), «Фиксики» (Fixies), «Барбоскины» (Barboskiny), «Белка и Стрелка. Озорная семейка» (Belka and Strelka), «Три котенка» (Three Kittens) and «Паровозик Тишка» (Tishka the Little Train) with classics from the Soyuzmultfilm studio and the Gosteleradiofond archive. The channel also carries its own productions, including «Аркадий Паровозов спешит на помощь» (Arkady Parovozov to the Rescue), «Бумажки» (Bumazhki), «Ми-Ми-Мишки» (Mi-Mi-Mishki), «Сказочный патруль» (Fantasy Patrol), «Лео и Тиг» (Leo and Tig), «Деревяшки» (Derevyashki) and «Четверо в кубе» (Four in a Cube). Until summer 2015 the channel aired without commercial breaks; since 2019 it has also shown some foreign animated series. In March 2015, with the channel's participation, the «Мульт в кино» (Mult at the Cinema) anthology was launched in Russian federal cinema chains with support from the Russian Ministry of Culture. By April 2015, according to TNS Russia audience research, Mult ranked second among Russian non-terrestrial children's television channels. From 26 September 2015 to 8 September 2018 a weekly morning animation block, «Мульт утро» (Mult Morning), aired on the channels «Россия-1» and «Россия-1 HD». On 1 December 2019 the channel switched to 16:9 widescreen broadcasting and launched a high-definition (HD) version. In 2020 the channel changed its programming concept: Gosteleradiofond cartoons ceased transmission, and several series — «Бумажки» (though it returned in 2025), «Аркадий Паровозов спешит на помощь», «Три котёнка» and «Паровозик Тишка» — were dropped. The channel has received several industry awards, including «Большая цифра-2015» in the Children's TV Channel category, «Золотой луч-2017» in the Children's TV Channel category, and «Большая цифра-2018» in the Children's TV Channel category for the 0+ age group.

By April 2015, according to audience research by TNS Russia, Mult had reached second place among Russian non-terrestrial children's television channels. Until summer 2015 the channel broadcast without commercial breaks. In 2020 the channel changed its programming concept: cartoons from the Gosteleradiofond archive ceased transmission, and several series were dropped — «Бумажки» (Bumazhki), «Аркадий Паровозов спешит на помощь» (Arkady Parovozov to the Rescue), «Три котёнка» (Three Kittens) and «Паровозик Тишка» (Tishka the Little Train). «Бумажки» was later returned to the schedule in 2025. Throughout its history the channel has been recognized by the industry. It won the «Большая цифра-2015» award in the Children's TV Channel category, the «Золотой луч-2017» award in the Children's TV Channel category, and the «Большая цифра-2018» award in the Children's TV Channel category for the 0+ age group.
