It began official broadcasting on 17 February 2019 at 19:00 with the television premiere of Transformers: The Last Knight. The channel was positioned as a premium film channel at launch and initially aired films without commercial breaks until 1 April 2019, when advertising sales began through Atmedia. History
The name Moziverzum was originally used by the Hungarian television channel TV2 for a film block that aired between 2002 and 2013, and for a film magazine programme of the same name that ran between 2005 and 2006. On 3 April 2017, the TV2 Csoport registered Moziverzum as a trademark. Subsequently, on 13 June 2017, the Romanian media authority approved the channel launch plan. The original plans envisaged the channel starting operations in the second half of 2017, but the launch was postponed to a later date. On 8 May 2018, the programming director of the TV2 Csoport announced the launch of the new premium film channel, Moziverzum. The channel's broadcasting licence covered Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine, Serbia and Croatia, with satellite distribution. The channel's initial budget was 900,000 euros. Test broadcasting began on 12 February 2019. Initially a test card was shown, which was later replaced by trailers and programmes about film behind-the-scenes. During the test broadcasting period, the channel used a colourful screen logo. Moziverzum began its official broadcast on 17 February 2019 at 19:00 with the television premiere of Transformers: The Last Knight. TV2 positioned the channel as a premium film channel at launch, and it aired films without commercial breaks until 1 April 2019. On that day, the sale of the channel's advertising time began, managed by Atmedia. Since 16 March 2022, catch-up viewing of the channel's programmes and use of the website have been available exclusively with a TV2 Play Prémium subscription. Prior to the channel's launch, it came under Romanian media jurisdiction, thus receiving its broadcasting licence from the Romanian National Audiovisual Council (CNA).
