Mosquito Dunks

Mosquito Dunks® is a product brand from Summit, described by Summit as the maker of Mosquito Dunks® and Mosquito Bits®. A Mosquito Dunk® is a small, beige donut-shaped product that floats on standing water and slowly dissolves, releasing a bacterium toxic to all species of mosquito larvae. Each dunk® is stated to kill mosquito larvae for 30 days or more and to cover up to 100 square feet of water regardless of depth. It is approved for use in organic production and can be used in standing water such as rain barrels, bird baths, tree holes, elevator shafts, planter reservoirs, and rain gutters. Summit states it has been in operation for 65 years and positions itself as an industry leader in eco-friendly pest control solutions for homeowners, pest control operators, and public health officials.

Summit states that it is the maker of Mosquito Dunks® and Mosquito Bits® and that for 65 years it has established a reputation for protecting people and the environment. Mosquito Dunks® are described as a microbial larvicide that controls only the larval stage of mosquito development using a bacterial active ingredient. When placed in standing water, the Dunks float and release a natural soil-borne bacterium, Bti (Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies israeliensis), which is ingested by mosquito larvae and kills them with no effect on anything else. The slow-release properties keep releasing Bti for at least 30 days or more, preventing mosquitoes from emerging as biting, disease-spreading adults.
