Overview
Moser Holzbau GmbH is a family-owned timber construction and carpentry company based in Taisten/Welsberg in the Puster Valley of South Tyrol, Italy. The business traces its origins to 1963, when Josef Moser founded the Zimmerei Moser Josef after earning his master carpenter certificate in 1960. Supported by his brother Alois, the small two-man operation grew steadily, and over the following decades Josef's sons Alois and Georg joined the trade, both eventually becoming master carpenters. In 1990 the family acquired a company site in the Handwerkerzone of Taisten, providing space for modern machinery and larger projects. The company was an early adopter of CNC joinery technology in South Tyrol, acquiring a CNC processing system in 1994, and later expanded into the production of solid wood panels (cross-laminated timber). Today Moser Holzbau operates as a Meisterbetrieb (master craft business) with around 20 employees, offering timber construction, carpentry, and related wood products. The company remains under the ownership and management of the Moser family, now in its third generation, and serves clients primarily in South Tyrol and the surrounding Alpine region.
History
The history of Moser Holzbau GmbH begins with Josef Moser, who completed an apprenticeship at the Zimmerei Schöpfer in Rasen in the Puster Valley. After successfully finishing his training, he earned his master carpenter certificate in 1960 and in 1963 founded the Zimmerei Moser Josef. With the support of his brother Alois, the two-man operation in the Puster Valley grew steadily. The family's passion for wood spread to the next generation: Josef's son Alois began a carpentry apprenticeship in 1974, and by that time the workshop, converted from a garage, was becoming too small. A second son, Georg, started his carpentry apprenticeship in 1981. Alois became a master carpenter in 1985, and Georg earned the same title a few years later. In 1990, Josef and his two sons decided to acquire a company site in the Handwerkerzone in Taisten, allowing them to meet the growing demand for workspace and room for modern machinery. In 1994, Alois and Georg decided to purchase a CNC joinery system, making them one of the first companies in South Tyrol to do so. Under the leadership of Alois and Georg, with support from their sister Klara, the family business grew to 20 employees. As timber construction gained importance in the region, the company decided to establish and expand production of solid wood panels (cross-laminated timber). In 1996, Moser Holzbau expanded with an office building, and in 1998 another growth milestone was added. The company continues to operate as a family business, now in its third generation, dedicated to timber construction.
