Overview

Moselle TV is a French local television channel serving the Moselle department in the Grand Est region. It broadcasts free-to-air on TNT channel 33 and is also carried on major French pay-TV platforms and Luxembourg's P&T Luxembourg. The channel's programming focuses on news, culture, politics, society, sports and territorial discovery, with a strong emphasis on local information and service. Its headquarters are located in the south-west stand of the Saint-Symphorien stadium in Longeville-lès-Metz, after moving from Woippy in July 2022. The channel was first preselected by the Conseil supérieur de l'audiovisuel (CSA) on 23 February 2010 to become the local digital terrestrial television service for the Moselle basin. It originally launched as Mirabelle TV, named after the Mirabelle plum, a symbol of Lorraine. In 2018 it joined the Vià network of local television stations and was renamed ViàMirabelle, then ViàMoselle TV in 2020 to reflect its editorial refocus on the department. It left the Vià network in June 2021 and became Moselle TV on 9 July 2021. The company operating the channel is a société anonyme d'économie mixte (semi-public limited company) with a board of directors. Its main shareholder is the Syndicat mixte numérique pour la communication audiovisuelle (SMNCA), which groups local Moselle authorities and holds 48.10% of the capital. Other shareholders include the City of Metz, the Eurométropole de Metz, Banque fédérative du Crédit Mutuel, Banque CIC Est, Open de Moselle and Le Républicain Lorrain. Mediapart has reported that this funding structure creates editorial dependence on the department. Moselle TV's audience peaks have included 150,000 viewers for a football match between FC Metz and US Boulogne, and regular audiences of around 50,000 for handball championship matches. The channel is available live on its website and mobile apps, and its programming includes shows such as Moselle Info, Graoully Mag, Dragonnes Mag, La Boîte à M'Alice, Zik d'Ici, Passion Patrimoine, Recettes Gourmandes and Les Chroniques du Rock.

History

Moselle TV's history begins on 23 February 2010, when the Conseil supérieur de l'audiovisuel (CSA) preselected the project to become the local digital terrestrial television service for the Moselle basin. The channel launched under the name Mirabelle TV, referencing the Mirabelle plum, a symbol of Lorraine. It was broadcast free-to-air on TNT channel 33 and also carried on SFR/Numéricable. Its coverage area initially reached an estimated 3.8 million inhabitants, including Metz, Thionville, Forbach, Sarrebourg, Longwy and Verdun. In July 2018, the channel announced it would join the new local television network Vià, presided over by Christophe Musset. On 3 September 2018, Mirabelle TV was renamed ViàMirabelle. On 10 July 2020, it became ViàMoselle TV to formalise its editorial refocus on the Moselle department. The channel left the Vià network on 20 June 2021 and was renamed Moselle TV on 9 July 2021. On 1 June 2022, the CSA renewed the channel's broadcasting authorisation for the Metz, Forbach and Sarrebourg areas in high definition, and it relinquished frequencies outside Moselle that had become inactive since February 2022. On 11 July 2022, the channel left its historic premises in Woippy and moved to the heart of the Saint-Symphorien stadium in the south-west stand. These new premises, modernised as part of the stadium's renovation, bring together offices, technical spaces and recording studios. The channel is operated by a société anonyme d'économie mixte à conseil d'administration named Moselle T.V. Its main shareholder is the Syndicat mixte numérique pour la communication audiovisuelle (SMNCA), which groups local Moselle authorities and holds 48.10% of the capital. As of 25 June 2025, the remaining capital is divided among the City of Metz (14.29%), Eurométropole de Metz (14.29%), Banque fédérative du Crédit Mutuel (7.62%), Banque CIC Est (4.76%), Open de Moselle (4.76%), Le Républicain Lorrain (1.90%) and other smaller shareholders. According to Mediapart, this funding generates editorial dependence of Moselle TV on the department. In terms of audience, the channel's historic record is a peak of 150,000 viewers for a football match between FC Metz and US Boulogne Côte d'Opale. It regularly attracts around 50,000 viewers for handball championship matches, and recorded 75,000 viewers for a handball match between Handbal Club Zalău and Metz Handball. Since 23 February 2010, Moselle TV has been broadcast on TNT channel 33 and is also available on SFR/Numéricable. It is distributed throughout France on Orange channel 351, Bbox channel 352, Freebox TV channel 920, SFR TV channel 506, and on Luxembourg's P&T Luxembourg channel 126. The channel is also available live on its website and mobile applications for iOS and Android.
