Overview

Mogura is a Japanese company focused on virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality and the metaverse. It began in March 2014 as "Mogura Games" (もぐらゲームス), an independent and free-game media site founded by Shun Kubota as a sole proprietorship. After a feature on VR headsets proved popular, the site spun off a VR-focused media outlet, "Mogura VR", in February 2015. The business was incorporated as Mogura Inc. (株式会社Mogura) on 4 August 2016, bringing both Mogura Games and Mogura VR under a corporate structure. Mogura's activities span media, research, consulting and development. It operates the VR/AR/MR news site "Mogura VR" and analyzes metaverse trends, while its consulting arm, "Mogura NEXT", supports companies and government bodies in XR initiatives. In December 2018 it launched "MoguLive" within Mogura VR to cover virtual entertainment such as VTubers, running alongside the business- and technology-oriented "Mogura VR News". In 2019 it began the Mogura NEXT consulting service and held the first XR Kaigi, a conference for the VR/AR/MR industry. On the development side, it built an AR system called "Flying Car AR" for Denso in July 2023 and worked with Kurayoshi City in Tottori Prefecture and Odakyu Electric Railway on the metaverse project "Virtual Kurayoshi". On 26 December 2025, a management integration between Mogura Inc. and MyDearest Inc., the VR game developer behind titles such as "Tokyo Chronos", was announced, to take effect at the end of January 2026. Under the absorption merger, Mogura as a legal entity ceased to exist and MyDearest became the surviving company, inheriting its businesses. The Mogura brand and its media and consulting operations continue under the MyDearest group.

History

Mogura's origins lie in independent game media. In March 2014, Shun Kubota launched "Mogura Games" (もぐらゲームス) as a sole proprietorship, a game media site focused mainly on free and indie games. A feature on VR headsets published on the site became a hit, and in February 2015 this led to the spin-off of a VR-focused outlet, "Mogura VR". On 4 August 2016, Mogura Inc. (株式会社Mogura) was founded, incorporating both Mogura Games and Mogura VR. The company continued to expand its media coverage. On 28 December 2018, it launched "MoguLive" within Mogura VR to cover virtual entertainment topics such as virtual YouTubers, creating a parallel structure with the business- and technology-oriented "Mogura VR News". In 2019 the company began its consulting service "Mogura NEXT" and held the first "XR Kaigi", a conference for the VR/AR/MR industry. Its business came to include analysis of metaverse trends and consulting, alongside operating the VR/AR/MR news site "Mogura VR". On the development side, on 12 July 2023 Mogura developed an AR system called "Flying Car AR" at the request of Denso. It also cooperated with Kurayoshi City in Tottori Prefecture and Odakyu Electric Railway to produce the metaverse project "Virtual Kurayoshi". On 26 December 2025, a management integration between Mogura Inc. and MyDearest Inc., the VR game developer behind titles such as "Tokyo Chronos", was announced, to be implemented at the end of January 2026. Through the absorption merger, Mogura as a legal entity was dissolved, and MyDearest became the surviving company, inheriting each business.
