MOBIpeople is a Portuguese bus and coach manufacturer headquartered in Coimbra. Founded in February 2008, the company began as a bus-repair business before moving into the design and manufacture of minibuses, midibuses, coaches and specialized bus bodywork. It operates from the former Marcopolo bus-factory site in Coimbra and is regarded as one of Portugal's principal bus manufacturers, behind CaetanoBus and Carroçarias Irmãos Mota. The company's origins are closely connected to the Portuguese bus-manufacturing industry. Its four founders—chief executive António Catarino and directors Paula Matos, Nuno Mendes and Alexandre Meireles—had previously worked at the Marcopolo factory in Coimbra. After that facility closed during the 2000s, they established MOBIpeople in a small workshop in the Adémia area of Coimbra. The business initially concentrated on vehicle repairs, using that activity as a base from which to develop its own manufacturing capability. MOBIpeople's early products included the Tropic body, designed for demanding operating conditions and exported to Angola. In 2009, the company introduced the Junior minibus, after which it developed sales in Belgium, France, Iceland and the Netherlands. Its portfolio subsequently expanded across several segments: compact minibuses on widely used commercial-vehicle chassis, low-floor urban buses, midicoaches, full-size coaches, school buses, luxury touring coaches and vehicles intended for developing markets. The United Kingdom became especially important to MOBIpeople. In 2014, the company entered an import and sales agreement with BASE Coach Sales, a Preston-based business associated with Holmeswood Coaches. Under the arrangement, MOBIpeople built vehicles to order while BASE marketed and sold them to British operators. By 2019, the United Kingdom represented approximately 60% of MOBIpeople's total sales volume. The Explorer, Midi-Explorer and Premium ranges were sold there through BASE, and more than 200 vehicles from those three lines had entered the British market by June 2022. MOBIpeople also secured overseas public-transport work. Bermuda's government ordered 21 City-bodied MAN low-floor buses in 2014 for the island's transportation department, followed by four additional vehicles in 2018. The later buses incorporated changes based on operational feedback, including one additional seated passenger place. The company's export activity also includes vehicles for Northern Europe and bodies for developing-market applications. By 2019, MOBIpeople had moved into a 3,400-square-metre factory in the Souselas industrial area of Coimbra and employed approximately 75 people. More than three-quarters of its reported turnover came from exports, reflecting the company's reliance on international distribution and vehicle orders rather than only the domestic Portuguese market. Its range, as described in 2022, included the 9T, 9T-PMR, City, Explorer, Explorer Nordic, Hybridus, Junior, Midi-Explorer, Mini-Bus, Mini-Bus-PMR, Premium, Tropic and Tropic Tour. The company therefore occupies a specialized position in the commercial-vehicle sector, combining body manufacturing with chassis-based vehicle construction and adapting products to operator, regulatory and geographic requirements.

MOBIpeople was established in Coimbra in February 2008 by António Catarino, Paula Matos, Nuno Mendes and Alexandre Meireles. All four had previously been employed at the Marcopolo bus factory in Coimbra, which closed during the 2000s. These orders demonstrated the company's ability to supply purpose-built urban buses outside continental Europe. The United Kingdom became an important market for the Explorer family. A 12.5-metre Explorer on a Scania K-series chassis was displayed at Euro Bus Expo at Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre in 2018. The model was aimed particularly at the school-bus market and could be configured with up to 74 seats in that application. The Explorer, Midi-Explorer and Premium were distributed in Britain by BASE; by June 2022, more than 200 vehicles across those three models had been imported. In 2020, MOBIpeople launched the Premium, its first luxury touring-coach product. BASE Coach Sales commissioned the model for Britain after Barbi Galileo production ended, leaving a gap in BASE's previous imported-coach range. The first Premium was delivered to Anthony's Travel in late 2020. By 2019, the company had expanded into a 3,400-square-metre factory in Souselas, Coimbra, and employed about 75 people. Reported annual turnover was €6.2 million, with more than 75 percent generated through exports. The product range recorded in 2022 covered compact commercial-vehicle conversions, urban buses, hybrid midibuses, school buses, midicoaches, full-size coaches and vehicles for developing markets.
