Femmes, genre, histoire, and takes its name from the Greek goddess of memory, Mnemosyne. The association works to promote the history of women and gender in France, within universities as well as in institutional, associative, and cultural settings devoted to teaching, training, research, and conservation. Mnémosyne is the French section of the International Federation for Research in Women's History. Since 2007 it has published the semiannual electronic journal Genre & Histoire, open to researchers from all disciplines whose work falls within the field of gender. In 2010 it coordinated the publication of the history textbook La place des femmes dans l'histoire. Une histoire mixte, designed as a pedagogical tool for secondary-school history teaching. In April 2021 it launched the podcast Du genre dans l'histoire. Since 2003 the annual Prix Mnémosyne has rewarded a master's thesis in women's or gender history, with each prize-winning work published, until 2006 by the Presses universitaires d'Angers and since 2007 by the Presses universitaires de Rennes. The association has been led by a series of presidents: Françoise Thébaud (2000–2008), Pascale Barthélémy (2009–2016), Julie Verlaine (2017–2020), Bibia Pavard (2020–2026), and Caroline Fayolle (2026–).
