History

Miyako Holdings Co., Ltd. was established on May 20, 2005, as a pure holding company to oversee the Miyako Group, following a decision on January 18, 2005, for Miyazaki Kotsu and its nine subsidiaries and one cooperative to receive support from the Industrial Revitalization Corporation of Japan (IRCJ). The IRCJ decided to purchase the group's debts on March 25, 2005, and sponsor companies were selected on May 23, 2005. The group underwent restructuring with the participation of 17 companies from within and outside Miyazaki Prefecture, led by Unkai Shuzo. The IRCJ's support ended on October 27, 2006. The company relocated its headquarters on July 27, 2006, to the Miyako City Culture Center, and again on March 3, 2014, to Bomberuta Tachibana. On August 1, 2009, it absorbed Miyazaki Netsugen Center Co., Ltd. In April 2012, it began real estate operations. On November 14, 2015, it introduced the nimoca IC card system to replace the Miyako Bus Card. On June 1, 2016, it partnered with Yamato Transport to launch a mixed passenger-cargo bus service. On June 7, 2018, it obtained a license from the Kyushu District Transport Bureau to operate freight trucking using route buses. On February 14, 2020, it jointly established JR Miyazaki City with JR Kyushu Station Building Holdings to operate Amu Plaza Miyazaki, which opened on November 20, 2020. On July 27, 2021, it decided to transfer its shared bicycle business, operated with other companies since 2018, to Miyazaki Toyota Motor, with the new framework starting August 1, 2021. On September 13, 2021, it relocated its headquarters to the West Wing of Miyazaki Kanko Hotel. The group has maintained profitability but fell into deficit due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
