Overview

Mitsubishi Electric Digital Innovation Corporation (三菱電機デジタルイノベーション株式会社) is a Japanese information-systems and digital-services company within the Mitsubishi Electric Group. It was established on 1 April 2025 by spinning off Mitsubishi Electric's corporate planning and promotion divisions for DX, IT and security, and by merging them with the group's existing information-system and service subsidiaries — Mitsubishi Electric Information Systems Corporation, Mitsubishi Electric Information Network Corporation and Mitsubishi Electric IT Solutions Corporation. The new company also absorbed the IT Solution Business and Business Reform Promotion Headquarters that were newly separated from the parent. The company positions itself as a "circular digital engineering company" (循環型 デジタル・エンジニアリング企業), aiming to turn all kinds of data into unprecedented value by combining the group's technology, people and know-how with the Serendie® digital platform. Its service portfolio spans solutions and services built on the capabilities of Mitsubishi Electric Group companies, including logistics measurement services such as Rulerless Truck™, sustainability-disclosure support using Workiva, OT security and cyber-resilience consulting, and healthcare/pharmacy systems that integrate prescription and electronic medication-record functions. Headquartered at the Marunouchi Head Office in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, the company maintains a nationwide network of offices and branches, including the Mita Office, Shonan System Center, Chubu Office, Kansai Office, Shibaura Office, and branches in Hokkaido, Tohoku, Chubu, Kansai, Shikoku and Kyushu. It also has affiliated companies such as Super Communications Inc. (SCI), Melco Techno Yokohama (MTY), TechnoWare (TEW), Cloud Centric Corporation (C3) and MB Techno (MBT). The company's roots reach back to Mitsubishi Electric's computer business: the MELCOM1101, completed in 1960 as the company's first electronic computer, and the MELCOM 81 office computer of 1968, whose catalogue wording gave rise to the Japanese term "ofukon" (office computer). The current entity is a 2025 consolidation of that long information-systems heritage into a single digital-innovation company under the Mitsubishi Electric brand.

History

The history of Mitsubishi Electric Digital Innovation is rooted in Mitsubishi Electric's computer and information-systems business. In the 1960s, as Japan entered a period of high economic growth and domestic electronics makers worked under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry's Agency of Industrial Science and Technology to close the technology gap with the United States, Mitsubishi Electric's radio equipment works commercialized the company's first digital computer, the MELCOM1101, completed in 1960. This laid the foundation for subsequent accounting machines and office computers. In 1961 the company released the MAM21, described as Japan's first domestically produced accounting machine. In 1968 it launched the office computer MELCOM 81, the first model in the MELCOM80 series; the catalogue's use of the term "office computer" is the origin of the Japanese word "ofukon" (オフコン), which later became the general term for small and medium-sized business computers in Japan. The preserved MELCOM 81 is registered as an important historical material of science and technology by the National Museum of Nature and Science. Over the following decades, Mitsubishi Electric's information-systems and services operations were organized into separate group companies. In 2001, Mitsubishi Electric spun off its information-system and service business as Mitsubishi Electric Information Systems Corporation. Other group IT companies included Mitsubishi Electric Information Network Corporation and Mitsubishi Electric IT Solutions Corporation. On 1 April 2025, Mitsubishi Electric Digital Innovation Corporation was established. According to the company's greeting page, it was created by spinning off the Mitsubishi Electric Group's planning and promotion divisions for DX, IT and security, and by integrating them with the group's information-system and service subsidiaries. The IT Solution Business and Business Reform Promotion Headquarters were also newly spun off and integrated. The new company thus consolidated a long-standing portfolio of information-system companies into a single digital-innovation entity under the Mitsubishi Electric brand. The company describes itself as aiming to become a "circular digital engineering company" that uses the Serendie® digital platform to turn all kinds of data into unprecedented value. Its service lines include solutions and services built on the know-how and technology of Mitsubishi Electric Group companies, such as the Rulerless Truck™ load-factor measurement service announced in September 2026, Workiva-based sustainability disclosure support, OT security and cyber-resilience offerings, and a planned insurance-pharmacy service integrating prescription and electronic medication records for spring 2027. The company is led by Representative Director and President Satoshi Takeda and maintains its Marunouchi Head Office in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, along with offices and branches across Japan.
