Milchwerke Mittelelbe

Milchwerke Mittelelbe, also known as Elb-Milch, is a Stendal-based industrial dairy processor. It produces milk powders, infant nutrition and ready-to-drink products, and has been part of the KRÜGER GROUP since 1991. The company traces its Stendal milk-processing history to 1949, when VEB Dauermilchwerke Stendal & Genthin was founded as the largest producer of dried milk and infant nutrition in the GDR.

The history of Milchwerke Mittelelbe in Stendal includes the 1896 founding of a sugar factory in the Stendal district. In 1949, VEB Dauermilchwerke Stendal & Genthin was founded and became the largest producer of dried milk and infant nutrition in the GDR. Since 1991, Milchwerke Mittelelbe has been part of the KRÜGER GROUP; with the acquisition of the largest East German industrial company for dried milk and baby food, entrepreneur Willibert Krüger secured a significant strategic function in the raw materials market and in the business with high-value pre-products. From 1991 to 2000, capacities for infant nutrition production were continuously expanded and individual spray towers modernized. In 2005, a cold-aseptic UHT filling plant was commissioned, enabling milk- and water-based drinks to be filled into different bottle sizes. In 2009, spray-drying capacities were expanded and the entire milk receiving and processing facility was rebuilt. In 2010, a combined heat and power plant was commissioned, increasing energy supply efficiency while reducing CO2 emissions. From 2012 to 2015, production capacities for infant nutrition were expanded and a new line for UHT filling of liquid products was installed in 2015. In 2015, spray capacities for infant nutrition were again continuously expanded, with new filling plants for ready-to-drink products and corresponding expansion in 2017. In 2018, a new automated 16,000 sqm logistics center was built at the Stendal site. In 2019, Milchwerke Mittelelbe in Stendal celebrated its 70th anniversary of milk processing.
