Overview

MICo servis, spol. s r.o. is a Czech engineering company founded in 2006 as a subsidiary of the MICo group. It specialises in the development, manufacture and assembly of sealing products, above all for the primary and secondary circuits of nuclear power plants built to the Soviet-designed VVER concept. Its product programme is deliberately narrow and deep: combed (serrated) gaskets with a stainless-steel core and graphite facing for sealing flanged joints, and graphite sealing rings made from expanded graphite that are designed to remain tight under extreme operating conditions. The company also carries out its own research and development. It developed its graphite-based seals as an ecological alternative to the original Soviet-era metal, asbestos and spiral-wound gaskets used in VVER plants. In this work it cooperates with Czech universities, including Tomas Bata University in Zlín, the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen and the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague. Ownership changed in 2022, when the parent company MICo went bankrupt. MICo servis was the only company in the MICo group not directly affected by the insolvency, but as a subsidiary it was transferred during the rescue to the CE Industries holding of Czech businessman Jaroslav Strnad. From the end of 2023 MICo servis has operated as a standalone company within the energy division of that holding. It therefore combines a specialised nuclear-supply engineering niche with the backing of a larger Czech industrial group.

History

MICo servis was founded in 2006 as a subsidiary of the Czech company MICo. From the outset it was an engineering business focused on sealing technology, and over time it concentrated on the nuclear power sector, specifically plants using the VVER reactor concept. Its manufacturing programme was built around two main families of products: combed gaskets, which use a stainless-steel core with a graphite facing to seal flanged joints, and graphite sealing rings made from expanded graphite for service in extreme conditions. A significant part of the company's identity has been research and development. MICo servis developed its graphite-based seals as an ecological alternative to the original Soviet metal, asbestos and spiral-wound gaskets used in VVER plants. To support this work it cooperated with Czech universities, among them Tomas Bata University in Zlín, the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen and the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague. In 2022 the parent company MICo entered bankruptcy. MICo servis was the only company in the MICo group not directly affected by that event, but because it was a subsidiary of MICo it was also transferred during the rescue process to the CE Industries holding of Czech businessman Jaroslav Strnad. From the end of 2023 MICo servis has operated as a standalone company within the energy division of CE Industries. This gave the specialised nuclear-sealing manufacturer a new industrial parent while preserving its technical focus.
