Overview

M&H Valve Company is a United States manufacturer of fire protection and water distribution products, including fire hydrants, resilient wedge gate valves, butterfly valves, and check valves. The company traces its origins to 1854, when it began as a partnership between Mr. McNab and Mr. Carr in New York City, manufacturing products for the water and steam industries. After several ownership and name changes, the portion of the business making cast iron fittings and valves relocated to Anniston, Alabama, in 1925, where iron production officially began in 1926. M&H has been a cornerstone of Anniston manufacturing since the mid-1920s and today operates from its headquarters at 605 West 23rd Street, Anniston, Alabama. M&H Valve serves customers across the United States and around the world, with a reputation for durable products backed by knowledgeable service and support. Its product catalog centers on two main categories: valves and hydrants. The valve line includes resilient wedge gate valves, butterfly valves, and check valves, while the hydrant line includes the Model 29 and traffic models designed to withstand vehicle impacts. The company also offers iHydrant™, a real-time pressure and temperature monitoring and analytics solution for water infrastructure. M&H Valve is ISO 9001:2015 certified and states a commitment to quality, continual improvement, and meeting customer requirements. M&H Valve is proud to be part of the McWane companies, a family of water infrastructure businesses. Over its more than 165-year history, the company has adapted to changing markets and technologies, expanding from its early water and steam products to a broad range of fire protection and water distribution solutions. Its products are recognized and trusted by municipal water systems, fire protection agencies, and industrial customers. The company emphasizes long-term customer relationships, one-on-one service from quoting through shipping, and a diverse, dedicated workforce.

History

M&H Valve Company's history dates back to 1854, when it began as a partnership between Mr. McNab and Mr. Carr. The McNab-Carr Company, located in New York City, manufactured products for the water and steam industries. In 1862, when Mr. Carr retired, a new partnership formed between Mr. James McNab and Mr. John Harlin. Over the next 60 years, the McNab and Harlin Company expanded to serve additional industries, including air, gas, and oil, and its water products grew to include valves, fire hydrants, and iron fittings. By 1920, the company, then known as the M&H Manufacturing Company, faced family and financial difficulties that led to the liquidation and sale of its assets. In 1925, with financial help from leading Anniston businessmen and the Anniston Chamber of Commerce, the portion of the M&H Company that made cast iron fittings and valves was relocated to Anniston, Alabama. This move was intended to create local industry and employment for Anniston citizens. In 1926, iron production at the newly named M&H Valve & Fitting Company officially began with the help of 60 new Anniston employees. In 1929, M&H designed and manufactured the Model 29 Fire Hydrant, named after the year it was first made, though full production did not begin until 1932. In 1934, as automobiles became an increasing hazard to fire hydrants, M&H engineers developed the Traffic Model Fire Hydrant (Model 29T), later called the 129. In 1955, investment in the latest foundry and machining technology helped M&H Valve become a significant manufacturer of valves and fire hydrants for water systems across the Southeast. That same year, M&H Valve was purchased by the Walworth Valve Company. In 1961, Walworth Valve Company sold M&H to Dresser Industries, which brought M&H products to a wider market. M&H Valve is now part of the McWane companies, a group of water infrastructure businesses. The company continues to operate from its Anniston, Alabama headquarters and has been manufacturing there since the mid-1920s. Over more than 165 years, M&H Valve has grown and adapted, developing technological advances to make its manufacturing processes more effective and efficient. Its product line has evolved to include resilient wedge gate valves, butterfly valves, check valves, and the iHydrant™ real-time monitoring system, while maintaining classic products like the Model 29 hydrant.
