Overview

Mezzan Holding is a Kuwaiti food, healthcare, and consumer conglomerate. Its origins date back to the 1940s, when the late Jassim Mohammad Ali Al Wazzan opened his first retail store selling consumer-ready imported products. Today the group manufactures and distributes over 34,000 SKUs through 34 vertically integrated companies, with operations spanning six countries. Its portfolio covers food, healthcare, consumer, and industrial brands, and its services division works with clients including NGOs, aid agencies, governments, and business-to-business customers.

History

Mezzan Holding's origins date back to the 1940s, when the late Jassim Mohammad Ali Al Wazzan opened his first retail store selling consumer-ready imported products such as rice, sugar, and other food staples. The store, the first Al Wazzan retail store in "Altararih" Souk, Kuwait, specialized in basic household necessities including canned and preserved food products. This enabled Al Wazzan to cultivate relationships with foreign manufacturers and introduce international brands such as Claire Ghee, Pillsbury Flour, Baird's Vinegar, and Crystal Hot Sauces into the Kuwaiti marketplace. In the 1960s, the business ventured into food manufacturing, building the GCC's first factory for mincing, mixing, and sharia-compliant meat products, later recognized as "Khazan". Al Wazzan also acquired a majority stake in KITCO, a pioneering potato chip factory. The group attracted international brands including Johnson & Johnson, Kimberly Clark, Reckitt Benckiser, General Mills, and GlaxoSmithKlein. Today, Mezzan Holding is one of the leading food, healthcare, and consumer conglomerates in the Middle East, manufacturing and distributing over 34,000 SKUs through 34 vertically integrated companies across the Gulf and other select markets.
