Metropolitan Expressway Association

The Metropolitan Expressway Association is a general incorporated foundation established on January 10, 1967, positioned between road construction and local residents to support communities along the Metropolitan Expressway. Its activities include road-related building management, promotion of the environment around the Metropolitan Expressway, road beautification support, traffic orphan scholarship assistance, and public awareness activities for the Metropolitan Expressway. It also operates monthly parking, hourly parking, and sightseeing bus parking, and manages rental facilities under the expressway.

The Metropolitan Expressway Association was established on January 10, 1967, as the Foundation for the Metropolitan Expressway Association, during a period of high economic growth when the Metropolitan Expressway was being constructed to alleviate chronic traffic congestion. It was positioned between road construction and local residents to support surrounding communities. In July 1970, it contributed to the installation of the "Nihonbashi" bridge nameplate. In December 1978, the rental facility under the Metropolitan Expressway Route 5 Ikebukuro Line (Minami-Ikebukuro store) was completed, and building rental management operations began. In July 1980, it launched a scholarship assistance system for traffic orphans. In June 1983, part of its research and study operations were transferred to the Foundation for Metropolitan Expressway Technology Center. In April 2006, part of its rest area operations and underpass parking operations were transferred to Metropolitan Expressway Service Co., Ltd. In April 2011, its ETC operations were transferred to Metropolitan Expressway Service Co., Ltd., and card operations (Metropolitan Expressway Card, Metropolitan Expressway Business Card) were transferred to the same company. In October 2011, it merged with the Foundation for Metropolitan Expressway Compensation Center and the Metropolitan Expressway Service Promotion Association. In April 2013, it transitioned to a general incorporated foundation. In April 2021, its land compensation operations and public relations printing operations were transferred to Metropolitan Expressway Associate Co., Ltd.

A foundation that supports the convenience and comfort of people using the Metropolitan Expressway and surrounding areas through road-related operations.
