Overview

UniMetrocamp (originally METROCAMP) is a private higher education institution based in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil. It was founded on 31 December 2002 as Faculdade Integrada Metropolitana de Campinas by Eduardo José Pereira Coelho, a civil engineer and former federal deputy, and businessman and professor José Luiz Cintra Junqueira. The institution operates a single campus in the Vila Industrial district of Campinas. Over the years, UniMetrocamp has changed ownership and branding several times. In 2008 it was acquired by Grupo Ibmec Educacional S/A. In 2009, Ibmec unified its brands IBTA, Metrocamp, Imapes and Uirapuru under the name Veris Faculdades, and a new campus was inaugurated in Vila Industrial. After the sale of other institutions in the joint venture, the Metrocamp name was gradually restored from 2012. In 2015, the American group DeVry, Inc. (now Adtalem Global Education) announced the purchase of 96.4% of Grupo Ibmec Educacional S/A, and in 2016 the college was renamed DeVry Metrocamp. In 2018, DeVry Brasil became Wyden Educacional, and the institution was renamed Centro Universitário UniMetrocamp Wyden. In October 2019, its sale to YDUQS was approved without restrictions by the Brazilian antitrust authority CADE, and since then it has been owned by YDUQS. UniMetrocamp offers undergraduate and technological degree programs. As of November 2015, it offered a range of courses. The institution is part of the YDUQS network, one of the largest private higher education groups in Brazil. Its official website is hosted under the devrybrasil.edu.br domain, reflecting its past association with DeVry Brasil.

History

UniMetrocamp was founded on 31 December 2002 as Faculdade Integrada Metropolitana de Campinas (METROCAMP) by Eduardo José Pereira Coelho, a civil engineer and professor at Unicamp, and businessman and professor José Luiz Cintra Junqueira. The institution began operations in Campinas, São Paulo. In 2008, METROCAMP was acquired by Grupo Ibmec Educacional S/A, which also maintained the Ibmec college, for an undisclosed amount. In 2009, Grupo Ibmec Educacional S/A chose to unify its brands IBTA, Metrocamp, Imapes and Uirapuru, forming Veris Faculdades. That same year, with the expansion of the brand, a new campus was inaugurated, moving the college from the old Colégio Progresso to its current campus in Vila Industrial. In 2011, Ibmec sold the Imapes and Uirapuru colleges, both located in Sorocaba, to Anhanguera Educacional, and in 2012 sold IBTA, with units in São Paulo and São José dos Campos, to Grupo CETEC Educacional. In the same year, a new building adjacent to the main campus was inaugurated, integrating all activities of the institution into a single unit. With the sale of the institutions that were part of the joint venture, from 2012 the name Veris Faculdades was gradually abandoned until the already consolidated name Metrocamp returned. In 2015, the American group DeVry, Inc. (currently Adtalem Global Education) announced the purchase of 96.4% of Grupo Ibmec Educacional S/A, the largest acquisition ever made in Brazil by the American company, valuing the higher education company at approximately R$ 700 million. In 2016, the college was renamed DeVry Metrocamp, and in 2017 the DeVry group changed its name to Adtalem Global Education. In 2018, DeVry Brasil changed its name to Wyden Educacional, and the college was renamed Centro Universitário UniMetrocamp Wyden. In October 2019, the sale of the college was approved without restrictions by the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE), and it was acquired by the YDUQS group. Since then, it has been part of YDUQS. The institution offers undergraduate and technological degree programs. As of November 2015, it offered a range of courses. Its official website is hosted at devrybrasil.edu.br/metrocamp/.
