Overview
Metal4 is a German-language online music magazine dedicated to metal and rock. It began in 2009 as Metal4Bremen, a regional platform for events and bands around Bremen, and since 2011 has operated as an interregional, national online magazine. Its editorial headquarters are in Bremen, with correspondents in Hamburg, Hanover, Cologne and the Ruhr area producing daily articles. The magazine publishes news, interviews, record and concert reviews, and background features on metal subgenres and music-industry topics such as GEMA and copyright. It also launched an online radio in April 2012. The website metal4.de is the brand's main outlet; at the time of the official homepage snippet it was in maintenance mode.
History
Metal4 traces its origins to the project Metal4Bremen, created on 15 September 2009 by David Pfeil, Simon Lindner and Jens Martin Baumgartner. The initial idea was to build a platform providing information about regional events and bands in the Bremen area. The site went online the following month and received its first festival accreditations in the summer of the following year. As feedback grew, the site expanded beyond its home region. Enthusiasm from readers who were not necessarily metal fans, along with coverage of and interest in bands, concerts and organisers, prompted a consultation to reformulate the site. The three founders then developed the concept of an interregional magazine in collaboration with several regional editions: coverage of bands and events and effective support of the scene in the corresponding region were the initial goals of the regional project. On 15 October 2011, Metal4 went online as a national site. An online radio appeared in April 2012. In addition to news and reviews, Metal4 offers background articles on metal genres and on the music industry, such as GEMA and copyright. The aim is to create debate for the community, providing a comprehensive presentation of all aspects of metal on the internet and fostering encounters between internet users, musicians and organisers.
