Overview
Messorem is a Canadian craft brewery based in Montreal, Quebec. According to its official website, Messorem Inc. is an industrial microbrewery project with a taproom that specializes in brewing and designing IPA, sour beers, and barrel-aged beers. The brewery offers draft beers, takeaway cans and bottles, and an online shop with pickup at the brewery or delivery. The company was founded by three friends — Marc-André Filion, Sébastien Chaput, and Vincent Ménard — who met in the early 2000s through music. Each brought distinct professional strengths to the venture: Sébastien, a guitarist for the technical metal band Ion Dissonance, studied business management and finance and handles the numbers; Vincent, a former drummer for The Last Felony who had been homebrewing for about a decade, studied brewing, interned at Auval and Pit Caribou in the Gaspé, and worked as a brewer at Les Trois Mousquetaires for two years; and Marc-André, a vocalist for Orphans in Coma and Here Comes The Hurricane who now raps with La Carabine, studied design and marketing and is the designer behind Messorem's brand image. Messorem's product lineup includes a range of hop-forward and experimental beers. Examples listed on its website include Broccoli Fauche Tout XT DIPA (7.9% and 8.5%), Tomber de Son Nuage IPA (7.0%), Le Sang Attire Le Sang IPA (6.5%), Halte Inévitable Lager (5.0%), Temporalis 0067 and 0068 TIPA (10.0%), Sortie Spectrale HBC 1134 Dry Hopped Lager (4.5%), and MBCB '26 XTRM Turbo IPA (6.5%). The brewery sells beer on tap at its taproom, in cans and bottles for takeaway, and through its online store with pickup or delivery options. Messorem operates as a private company. Its focus on IPAs, sours, and barrel-aged beers positions it within the contemporary craft beer movement in Quebec.
History
Messorem was created on paper by Marc-André Filion, Sébastien Chaput, and Vincent Ménard. The three met in the early 2000s through music. Sébastien was a guitarist for the technical metal band Ion Dissonance, touring worldwide; when the band no longer wanted to be on the road full-time, he studied business management and finance at university. Vincent was a drummer for The Last Felony and had been homebrewing for about ten years before studying brewing; he completed an internship at Auval and Pit Caribou in the Gaspé and then worked as a brewer at Les Trois Mousquetaires for two years. Marc-André sang in Orphans in Coma and Here Comes The Hurricane and now raps with La Carabine, which was nominated at the ADISQ in 2017 for best hip-hop album with "Chasser ses Démons"; he studied design and marketing and is the designer behind Messorem's brand image.
