Merseytravel

Merseytravel is the executive body that provides professional, strategic and operational transport advice to the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, and also acts as its delivery arm for transport. It is part of the Combined Authority, which is led by Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram and brings together six local authorities: Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Wirral. Merseytravel's stated focus is supporting the economic growth of the Liverpool City Region by improving connectivity, maintaining an integrated transport network and improving the customer experience. Its transport areas include bus, rail, tunnels, ferry and active travel.

It is part of the Combined Authority, which is led by Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram and brings together the Liverpool City Region's six local authorities: Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Wirral, using devolved powers from Government. Merseytravel's focus is on supporting the economic growth of the Liverpool City Region by improving connectivity across the region and beyond, supporting and maintaining an integrated transport network, and improving the customer experience from ticket buying to working with partners to get people to and from major events. Its transport areas include bus, rail, tunnels, ferry and active travel. In 2026, Merseytravel announced a public competition for places aboard the new £26m Royal Daffodil ferry, described as the first new Mersey Ferry in more than 60 years, locally built on the banks of the Mersey and planned for introduction into passenger service later that autumn.
