Overview

MEGIN is a Finnish neuroscience technology company focused on magnetoencephalography (MEG), a non-invasive functional neuroimaging modality that detects the very small magnetic fields produced by active brain cells. The company describes itself as a global leader in MEG and develops, delivers, installs, maintains, and supports end-to-end MEG solutions used by hospitals and research institutions worldwide. Its offering spans hardware, software, clinical applications, installation and maintenance, customer support, training, regulatory and quality assurance, consulting, sales, and marketing. MEGIN's flagship clinical platform is MEG Maps™, powered by the TRIUX™ neo scanner and MEG review™ software. MEG Maps™ is positioned as an end-to-end solution to help hospitals establish and grow a successful MEG program, with applications including epilepsy localization maps for pre-surgical evaluation and primary sensory and motor maps for surgical planning. The TRIUX™ neo system features ultra-resilient ARMOR™ sensors, patented signal-level movement compensation technology to eliminate head-movement artifacts, an internal helium recycler (IHR) to reduce helium consumption and costs, seated, reclined, or supine patient positioning with adjustable seating height, and the ability to scan and filter sources of magnetic noise including select implants and metallic objects. MEGIN's technology is used in neurology, neurosurgery, and research. MEG identifies the very small magnetic fields generated when brain cells are active, detecting and recording normal and abnormal brain activity in real time and localizing brain function to within a centimeter or even millimeters. It complements the hemodynamic data obtained from MR technology. The patient experience is non-invasive, silent, and involves no applied magnetic fields, radiation, or injections. Clinically, MEG helps doctors locate normal brain activity — including where the brain processes language, sensory, and motor information — to help plan surgical and non-surgical treatments. MEGIN operates with a team of more than 70 employees strategically positioned across the USA, UK, Finland, and Japan to be close to its global customer base. The company's specialists have expertise in establishing and growing MEG labs. MEGIN publishes a newsletter, MEGIN Matters, and maintains an interactive map of installed MEG sites. The company is headquartered in Finland and is a private company.

History

MEGIN is a Finnish neuro-imaging company. Its corporate history is tied to the development and commercialization of magnetoencephalography (MEG) technology, which originated in Finland through the work of researchers at Helsinki University of Technology (now Aalto University) and the former Neuromag company. Neuromag's MEG technology was later acquired by Elekta, a Swedish medical technology group, and the Finnish MEG business operated under Elekta for years, developing successive generations of whole-head MEG systems used in hospitals and research institutions worldwide. In 2021, the Finnish MEG business was separated from Elekta and re-established as an independent company under the name MEGIN. The name MEGIN is derived from MEG (magnetoencephalography) and the Finnish word "megin," meaning "might" or "main." The new company continued to develop, manufacture, sell, and service MEG systems, building on the installed base and technology heritage of the former Elekta MEG business. MEGIN's flagship product line is the TRIUX™ neo MEG system, paired with MEG review™ software and the MEG Maps™ clinical platform. MEG Maps™ was introduced as an end-to-end solution to help hospitals establish and grow clinical MEG programs, with applications in epilepsy localization for pre-surgical evaluation and sensory/motor mapping for surgical planning. The company emphasizes clinical translation of MEG, aiming to bring the technology from research into routine patient care. MEGIN operates globally with a team of more than 70 employees positioned across the USA, UK, Finland, and Japan. It provides full-service support including hardware, software, clinical applications, installation and maintenance, customer support, training, regulatory and quality assurance, consulting, sales, and marketing. The company maintains an interactive map of installed MEG sites and publishes a newsletter, MEGIN Matters. As of the available evidence, MEGIN is a private company headquartered in Finland.
