MEDRx Co., Ltd. (株式会社メドレックス) is a Japanese pharmaceutical formulation development company headquartered in Higashikagawa, Kagawa Prefecture. Founded in January 2002, the company was established to develop new drug formulations suited to diversifying lifestyles and an unprecedented aging society. Its core focus is on transdermal absorption technology and other drug delivery systems that improve patient convenience and quality of life, particularly for patients who have difficulty with oral administration or who need to avoid missed doses. MEDRx's proprietary technology platforms include ILTS® (Ionic Liquid Transdermal System), which uses ionic liquids to dramatically enhance transdermal absorption, and NCTS® (Nano Colloid Transdermal System), which uses nano-colloids to improve skin penetration and reduce skin side effects. The company is also researching microneedle arrays for painless transdermal delivery of vaccines, nucleic acid drugs, and protein drugs that currently require injection. Its pipeline includes candidates such as MRX-4TZT, MRX-5LBT, MRX-9FLT, and MRX-6LDT. MEDRx obtained first- and second-class pharmaceutical manufacturing and sales licenses in April 2005 and launched its first product, Iodocoat ointment for pressure ulcers and skin ulcers, in August 2005. The company listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Mothers market in February 2013 and transitioned to the Growth Market in April 2022 following the exchange's market restructuring. It has established U.S. subsidiaries for clinical development, including IL Pharma Inc. (2007) and MEDRx USA INC. (2015), which merged in 2015. The current representative director and president is Yonehiro Matsumura. MEDRx positions itself as a formulation-focused R&D company aiming to deliver innovative new drugs to patients worldwide.
