Medipan GmbH is a German medical diagnostics company founded in 1992 and headquartered in Blankenfelde-Mahlow OT Dahlewitz, south of Berlin. It is an independent family company active in in vitro diagnostics (IVD), particularly immunological techniques for the diagnosis of autoimmune diseases. Together with its sister company GA Generic Assays GmbH, Medipan develops and supplies test kits and automated laboratory systems for laboratories, clinics, research centers, and physicians worldwide, operating in over 70 countries. The company began by marketing radioimmunoassay (RIA) products for thyroid function, disease, and tumor markers, initially in Germany and soon internationally. Its portfolio later expanded to non-radioactive tests and assays for autoantibodies found in autoimmune type 1 diabetes. Today Medipan offers a broad range of diagnostic methods including Immunofluorescence Assays (IFA), LINE & Dot Immunoblot Assays, ELISA, Radioimmunoassay (RIA), and rapid tests, covering indications such as thyroid disorders, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, gastrointestinal diseases, and neurological conditions. A key milestone came in 2009 when Medipan became the first company in the world to introduce a commercially available system for fully automated, objective evaluation of cell-based immunofluorescence tests: the AKLIDES® system. This innovation enabled standardization and mathematically proven prediction of antibody concentration, earning several awards. In 2009, Medipan became the first company in the world to introduce a commercially available system for the fully automated, objective evaluation of cell-based immunofluorescence tests: the AKLIDES® system. This marked a new milestone in the development of the immunofluorescence method, one of the oldest and most widespread laboratory procedures for the diagnosis of autoimmune diseases. The system enabled standardization and mathematically proven prediction of antibody concentration, and received several awards.
