Overview
Media & viestintä (known as Tiedotustutkimus until 2008) is a Finnish scientific journal founded in 1978 and published by the Media and Communication Studies Association MEVI (Media- ja viestintätieteellinen seura Mevi ry). It publishes articles in the fields of media, communication and journalism research. The journal examines the entire media landscape and is the leading Finnish-language scholarly publication in its field. Its first issue each year is the Journalismikritiikin vuosikirja (Yearbook of Journalism Criticism), which has been published since 1998. The journal began as a newsletter, expanded rapidly in content, and during the 1980s developed into a scientific journal. Peer review was introduced in the 1990s. MEVI, the association behind the journal, promotes media and communication research within and beyond the academic community, and organizes the Media and Communication Research Days (Mevi-päivät), the most important domestic conference in the field. The journal is currently seeking a new editor-in-chief or editor-in-chief pair starting from 1 January 2027. Media & viestintä is a non-commercial scholarly publication, not a consumer product brand, but it functions as a trademarked academic title within the Finnish research community.
