Overview

Med Paper S.A. is a Moroccan paper company headquartered in Tangier. It is engaged in the production, processing and sale of paper, board and their derivatives, making paper for printing, writing and packaging. The company operates three independent production units, one for each product category: packaging paper, printing and writing paper, and fine paper. Its products are made from pure pulp or from recycled paper. The company's roots go back to Papelera de Tetuan, founded in 1948 by the Spanish Benet business family, which initially produced mainly cardboard and later expanded into packaging paper and printing and writing paper. Safrifac S.A., founded by Mohsine Sefrioui, and Papelera de Tetuan merged in 2008 to form Med Paper. The company is listed on the Casablanca Stock Exchange and is part of the Moroccan All Shares Index (MASI). Mohsine Sefrioui is the majority shareholder with 67.3%, while free float stands at 24.43%. Med Paper serves several paper segments. For office use it offers a broad range of colours for folders and semi-thin files, including recycled-paper options, as well as kraft and white envelope ranges. For printing it produces offset paper with high smoothness and superior whiteness for reams used in photocopying, laser printing and offset printing, alongside products such as continuous white laser paper and Bristol board. For the school market it makes exercise books from vellum paper, typically 60 gsm, available with several bindings (soft and hard cover, stitched and spiral) and different designs, and it also works as a subcontractor for customers wanting custom notebook covers bearing their own brand. For packaging it supplies a range of kraft paper with strength suited to bags, sachets and containers for the food industry, distribution and the packaging sector generally, in applications as varied as confectionery, pastries, textiles and fruit packaging. The company states that total control of the manufacturing process is carried out throughout.

History

Med Paper's history begins with Papelera de Tetuan, founded in 1948 by the Spanish entrepreneur family Benet. The original operation produced mainly cardboard packaging. Over time the production range was extended to packaging paper and to printing and writing paper. The company went public on 28 July 1998. In 2008, Safrifac S.A. — founded by Mohsine Sefrioui, who is today the majority shareholder — and Papelera de Tetuan merged their production facilities to create Med Paper, a company listed on the Casablanca Stock Exchange. The merged business is headquartered in Tangier and operates three independent production units, one for each product type: packaging paper, printing and writing paper, and fine paper. Its products are made from pure pulp or recycled paper. Mohsine Sefrioui holds 67.3% of the shares, with a free float of 24.43%, and the stock is part of the Moroccan All Shares Index (MASI).
