History
Mayekawa started its business with ice manufacturing and cold storage. Kisaku Maekawa founded Mayekawa & Co. in Tokyo, Japan, in 1924. In 1930 it started ice making and cold storage business, and in 1934 it started production of industrial vertical low speed reciprocating compressors. The corporate name was changed to Mayekawa Manufacturing Co., Ltd. in Tokyo in 1937. In 1958 it developed a high-speed multi cylinder single-stage reciprocating compressor 'A Series' and a high-speed multi cylinder compound type two-stage reciprocating compressor. In 1960 it delivered a fully automatic control system for liquid pump recirculation system for large scale cold storage. In 1961 it delivered 12 sets of 100 ton/day meat freezing and 12,000 ton of cold storage plants complete with liquid pump recirculation systems to the former USSR; this project marked a significant milestone for Mayekawa's further growth, and the MYCOM brand was established. In 1963 it installed the first ammonia liquid pump recirculation refrigeration system for a 7000-ton cold storage in Japan. In 1964 it established its first overseas subsidiary company, MAYEKAWA DE MEXICO S.A. in Mexico. In 1965 it developed the world's first ammonia liquid pump recirculation system for fishing vessels. In 1966 it started production of screw type refrigeration compressors. In 1967 it established its subsidiary company, MAYEKAWA U.S.A. Inc. May 2024 marks Mayekawa's 100th anniversary.
