Overview
Maya Holding (MAYA Holding / MAYA Grubu) is an Istanbul-headquartered Turkish holding company whose roots go back to 1949, when İlyas Özsüer laid the foundations of the family business; the enterprise was formally incorporated in 1958. In its early decades the group traded in yarn and fibre raw materials and operated in textiles and various other industrial sectors. From the 1970s onward, real estate became its main line of business, and today Maya is described as one of Turkey's leading developers of housing, offices and shopping centres. The group's corporate structure was consolidated under the Maya Holding umbrella in 1999, after the second generation of the family joined management in 1984 and accelerated growth. From 2003, retail and services also became core business lines. Maya's operating divisions today include a Real Estate Development Group, a Retail Group, a Shopping Mall Investment and Development Group, a Service Group, an Energy Group and an R&D Group. Among its best-known holdings is MAPA A.Ş. (Mapa Mobilya ve Aksesuar Pazarlama A.Ş.), the Turkish representative of the Swedish furniture chain IKEA. Its shopping-mall investment arm is ADMA Kartal-İst A.Ş., and its R&D arm is MARGE. The group's real-estate portfolio includes residential projects such as Maya Kemer Evleri in Kemerburgaz, Maya Bodrum Evleri in Bodrum, and the mixed-use Maya Anatolium Tower in Kartal, Istanbul, which combines offices and retail and has hosted corporate tenants including a GE Aerospace Turkey technology centre. Maya Holding remains a privately held, family-controlled group. Its stated vision is to maintain a respected position through high-quality products and services in its sectors and to expand abroad; its mission emphasises ethical corporate governance, respect for employees, fairness to suppliers and sensitivity to society and the environment.
History
The foundations of the Maya Group were laid in 1949 by İlyas Özsüer, and the business was incorporated in 1958. In its early years the group was active in the trade of yarn and fibre raw materials, in industry and in various other industrial sectors. Real estate began to emerge as a main line of business from the 1970s, and from 1979 the group is described as operating in the real-estate sector. Growth accelerated when the second generation of the family joined management in 1984. The group completed its institutionalisation process under the Maya Holding umbrella in 1999, while preserving its family-company values. From 2003 onward, retail and services became additional core business lines for the group. Over time Maya built a diversified structure organised into a Real Estate Development Group, a Retail Group, a Shopping Mall Investment and Development Group, a Service Group, an Energy Group and an R&D Group. Its retail arm includes MAPA A.Ş. (Mapa Mobilya ve Aksesuar Pazarlama A.Ş.), which serves as the Turkish representative of the Swedish furniture chain IKEA. Its shopping-mall investment and development arm is ADMA Kartal-İst A.Ş., and its R&D arm is MARGE. In real estate, the group has developed residential projects such as Maya Kemer Evleri in Kemerburgaz — whose first phase was delivered in June 2022 and second phase in 2023 — and Maya Bodrum Evleri on the Bodrum peninsula in Muğla, which was moving toward delivery in the summer of 2024. In Kartal, Istanbul, the group developed Maya Anatolium Tower, a mixed-use project combining offices and retail; office leasing to selected firms began there, and the GE Aerospace Turkey Technology Centre opened in the tower with the participation of Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır. Maya Holding remains an Istanbul-headquartered, privately held family group. Its stated vision is to maintain a respected position through high-quality products and services in its sectors and to expand abroad, while its mission stresses ethical corporate governance, respect for employees, fairness to suppliers and sensitivity to society and the environment.
