Mathematical Methods of Operations Research (MMOR) is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by Springer Nature. It features high-quality contributions to mathematics, statistics, and computer science that have special relevance to operations research. The journal encompasses a range of areas from continuous and discrete mathematical optimization, stochastics to game theory. It is jointly sponsored by the Gesellschaft für Operations Research (GOR) and the Nederlands Genootschap voor Besliskunde (Dutch OR Society). The current Editor-in-Chief is Kathrin Klamroth. According to journal metrics, it has a Journal Impact Factor of 1.2 (2025) and a 5-year Journal Impact Factor of 1.2 (2025), with a median submission to first decision of 10 days and 118.2k downloads in 2025. The journal's history traces back to 1956 with predecessor journals, and it has been published under its current English title since 1996.

History

The journal Mathematical Methods of Operations Research has a continuous volume numbering that traces back to 1956, building on predecessor journals. In 1956, the journal Ablauf- und Planungsforschung: operational research in der Wirtschaftspraxis was established as the organ of the Arbeitskreis Operational Research (AKOR), founded in 1956. In 1972, AKOR merged with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Unternehmensforschung (DGU) to form the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Operations Research (DGOR). In this context, the journals Ablauf- und Planungsforschung and Unternehmensforschung: Zeitschrift für die Anwendung quantitativer Methoden und neuer Techniken in der Wirtschaftsführung und praktischen Forschung were merged to form the new journal Zeitschrift für Operations-Research, which was published from 1972 to 1995 and continued the volume numbering of Ablauf- und Planungsforschung. Along with a switch to English as the publication language, in 1996 the Zeitschrift für Operations-Research became Mathematical Methods of Operations Research. Since 1996, the journal has been published by Springer and is jointly sponsored by the Gesellschaft für Operations Research (GOR) and the Nederlands Genootschap voor Besliskunde (Dutch OR Society).
