Overview
Maruto Mizutani Corporation (株式会社マルト水谷) is a Japanese business-to-business wholesaler of alcoholic beverages, food products and restaurant supplies, headquartered in Kasugai, Aichi Prefecture. The company traces its origins to 1948, when founder Tokuji Kajita took over a liquor and seasoning food sales business in Nagoya's Mizuho Ward. Over the following decades it grew through mergers and acquisitions, most notably the 1997 equal merger of Maruto Co., Ltd. and Mizutani Sohonten Co., Ltd., which created the present-day Maruto Mizutani. Its core business is the wholesale of sake, beer, wine and other alcoholic drinks alongside food, rice, frozen foods and restaurant equipment to restaurants, izakaya and other food-service operators. The company positions itself not merely as a distributor but as a 'prosperity contractor' (繁盛請負業), supporting restaurants from site selection and menu development through daily ordering, inventory management and logistics. Its signature services include a 365-day delivery system with same-day delivery for orders placed by 5 a.m., the 'Sokutatsu Nama' (速達生) fresh draft beer program that guarantees beer shipped within two days of brewery production, the FOODNAVI restaurant industry information service, and the 'Hanjo no Hosoku' (繁盛の法則) seminar series. It also operates the MM Pro catalog and MM Pro Online web catalog for restaurant product sourcing. Maruto Mizutani serves Aichi, Gifu and Mie prefectures in the Tokai region. According to its corporate information page, it reported net sales of 27.7545 billion yen for fiscal 2024, up from 26.3088 billion yen in 2023 and 21.4602 billion yen in 2022, with 684 employees including group companies as of the end of March 2025. Capital is 358.8 million yen including capital reserve. The company has been ISO 9001 certified since 2014. In June 2023 the company transitioned to a holding company structure under MMG Holdings Co., Ltd., aiming to evolve from a general commercial wholesaler into a 'new general commercial wholesaler' along three axes: logistics, DX (digital support) and management accounting. Group companies include M&M Solutions (logistics outsourcing), Hazama Brewery (sake brewing), Tosei Foods (Chinese noodle and dim sum manufacturing), Insight Lead (system development and sales) and Sunrise Pro (accounting consulting and outsourcing). The current representative director and president is Masataka Kajita.
History
Maruto Mizutani's history begins in 1948, when Tokuji Kajita inherited the liquor and seasoning food sales business of Tsurujiro Suzuki and started an individual proprietorship at 3-13-13 Mizuho-dori, Mizuho Ward, Nagoya.
