Markas was founded on 15 May 1985 in Bolzano, Italy, by Mario Kasslatter and his wife Haidrun Achammer. In 1986, Markas expanded internationally with the founding of Markas Austria on 29 August in Baden, near Vienna; its first Austrian customer was the Landesklinikum Thermenregion Baden. In 2011, Evelyn Kirchmaier, Markas' General Manager in Italy, joined the company's leadership team alongside her husband Christoph Kasslatter. In 2012, the company held Markas Day in Bolzano on 7 September, where Christoph Kasslatter shared the company strategy with over 300 employees. In 2017, Markas Germany was established, continuing the group's international expansion. Today Markas operates as a family-owned multiservice group with over 40 years of experience and more than 13,000 employees.
