Overview

Marangoni is an Italian tyre group whose business began in 1945 with tyre retreading in a workshop in Rovereto. After 75 years in the tyre business, the company describes itself as a worldwide recognised leader in the green tyre retreading industry, in the design and production of machinery and materials for the sector, and in the manufacturing of TBR & OTR retreads. Its offering spans retreading systems (materials and technologies for TBR tyre retreading), tyre retreading machinery, and retreaded tyres, including the RINGTREAD System and MARIX tyres produced in Italy at its Rovereto plant.

History

Marangoni's history in the tyre business began in 1945 with the start of the tyre retread business in a workshop in Rovereto, in Corso Bettini. A first company logo followed in 1950, and the retreading business in Rovereto began in 1955. In 1956 compounding production was introduced, handled by Carlo Marangoni, described as the only brother with the chemistry knowledge needed to produce compounds in-house. A plant known as "Società Marangoni Fratelli" was built in 1957, and in 1959 the companies Marangoni Pneumatici SpA (tyre manufacturing), Marangoni Meccanica SpA (machinery for tyre manufacturing) and Pneumarket SpA (tyre marketing) were founded. Retreading operations moved to Follone's square in Rovereto in 1960, and in 1969 a new plant was inaugurated in Rovereto on via del Garda, with the original Via Abetone location becoming the site of Marangoni Meccanica. In 1973, from an idea of Mario Marangoni, study began on a new "cold" retreading system based on a precured tread ring for truck tyres; after a year of experiments on the prototype plant made by Marangoni Meccanica, production of this product, called RINGTREAD, began in 1974. Marangoni RTS (RingTread System) was founded in 1976, along with the opening of the Marangoni Tread establishment in Ferentino (Frosinone). Research for a new tyre manufacturing process started in 1977. Marangoni SpA, the parent company of the holding, was founded in 1984. In 1985 the first waste-to-energy plant was installed at the Marangoni Pneumatici establishment in Rovereto. The product range expanded in 1986 with the start-up of production for solid industrial tyres, and in 1989 Marangoni Tyre SpA was founded for the production of car tyres in Anagni (Frosinone). In 1990 Ellerbrock RT GmbH (Hamburg, Germany) was acquired.
